Calling all UWM graduate students! Looking for a quiet space to study or meet with other grads? Check out the Grad School Commons at the UWM Golda Meir Library!📚

Located on the second floor, east wing of the UWM Libraries, the Graduate Student Commons provides UWM graduate students with a “third space” — an alternative to home and classroom — for studying, connecting with colleagues, and building community.

It includes individual and group seating with a variety of comfortable chairs, study booths, and white boards. The space is partitioned into two zones: one for quiet study and another for collaboration and conversation.

Access is via Panthercard and limited to currently enrolled students in the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Graduate School.

In today’s healthcare environment, effective patient care depends on teamwork.

Students in the College of Heath Professions & Sciences (CHPS) from nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology came together for an interprofessional education (IPE) simulation.

Sarah, a CSD MS student shared, “This IPE simulation felt valuable to my learning, because it gave me insight as to what a real world case might look like in a hospital setting...with speech so to see how I can use my profession to work together in a team that included PTs and nurses was extremely helpful and will allow me to build my skills.”

As students worked through a realistic ICU scenario, they brought coordinated expertise from multiple disciplines, each contributing a unique lens to improve outcomes and provide effective patient care. As part of the team-based care, SLP students assessed communication and swallowing concerns.

While IPE has long been incorporated within individual programs, this experience reflects a broader initiative to expand interprofessional simulation across CHPS, creating more opportunities for students to learn with, from, and about one another in meaningful, hands-on ways.
