"Responding to the above exodus of talent, I have heard some retort, 'Good, we need to trim fat and students studying useless topics like philosophy'. Reality often is at variance with perception. First, of the approximately 630 professors (tenured/tenure track) at UWM less than 1% (6) are philosophers, who among other topics, teach logic.
Moreover, several studies show philosophy students by standardized test scores are among the smartest in the academy and earn above average incomes after graduation. In short, our universities have precious few of the faculty type some imagine, but could use more like philosophers given the success of their graduates."

UW-Milwaukee risks losing its ranking as a top tier research institution due to budget cuts. Retaining this status is vital for our economic future.

I don't agree that there is a lack of progress in philosophy. But progress is certainly slow. This article is about why progress might be so slow. It's a pretty good article.

For centuries, all philosophers seem to have done is question and debate. Why do philosophical problems resist solution?

Here's an APA interview with our former MA student Kay Cho! He's now a graduate student at UIC and doing cool work on Aristotle, Kant, and action theory. We loved having Kay as a student here and we're happy to see he's doing well!

Kyoungmin (Kay) Cho is a Ph.D. student at UIC working on philosophy of action and ethics. He also has a strong interest in the history of philosophy, especially pertaining to Aristotle and Kant. Hi…
