Every year, Marquette University’s Educational Opportunity Program serves 1,300 students — 1,000 middle and high school students in pre-college programs and 300 undergraduates on campus.

EOP is about more than access. It is about walking with students through cura personalis, caring for the whole person.

For many families, one graduate means the beginning of a new legacy.

This Give Marquette Day, help us keep doors open for the next generation.

Honored to share this National TRIO Week video from the Council for Opportunity in Education highlighting Dr. Arnold Mitchem, a leader who helped bring TRIO’s mission to life.

Dr. Mitchem began his TRIO journey at Marquette University, where he founded the Educational Opportunity Program. His legacy reminds us that awareness drives opportunity, and information sharing sustains progress.

We proudly salute and honor his impact on TRIO and generations of students nationwide.

This week, during Mission Week, I had the opportunity to reflect on the powerful message shared by Rick Dillon, member of the Board of Trustees at Marquette University, during the Act with Grace breakfast.

Rick’s remarks were a reminder that grace is not abstract—it’s lived. Through stories of family, faith, and personal transformation, he highlighted how community, perseverance, and authentic belief shape not only individual lives, but generations. His reflections on his father’s return to faith, the importance of staying committed to one’s calling, and the lasting impact of mentors and educators were deeply grounding.

He also spoke powerfully about access and belonging—how programs like the Educational Opportunity Program create a foundation, and how courage to step forward, build relationships, and fully engage opens the door to growth and leadership.

Mission Week continues to remind us that when we act with grace, we don’t just talk about values—we model them. And when grace meets opportunity, transformation follows.

Grateful for leadership that leads with purpose, humility, and conviction.

What a powerful and meaningful visit to ERP 💙✨

We had the honor of welcoming Dr. Jasmine Zapata (Marquette University EOP Alumna, Class of 2009) back home to spend time with students—sharing her story, her journey, and her heart. From growing up in Milwaukee, to navigating loss and setbacks, to serving as a physician and statewide public health leader, her testimony reminded our students what’s possible with faith, perseverance, and community support.

Moments like this matter. Representation matters. Coming back to pour into the next generation matters.

Thank you, Dr. Zapata, for reminding our students that they can dream boldly, overcome obstacles, and become more than one thing—while still giving back to where it all started.

💙💛

We pause with heavy hearts, yet deep gratitude, as we celebrate the life and legacy of Brother Johnnie W. Tangle, Jr. 🕊️
I
Brother Johnnie was a proud alumnus of the Marquette University Educational Opportunity Program, and his life reflected the very spirit of access, perseverance, and purpose that EOP stands for. He was a man of faith, character, and quiet strength—someone whose presence made others better simply by being himself.

As we share the details of his Homegoing Celebration, we ask our extended EOP family, friends, and community to cover his wife, family, and loved ones in prayer. Pray for comfort, peace, and strength during this tender season. Pray that the love he poured into others returns to them multiplied.

His legacy lives on in every life he touched, every role he carried—son of God, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, friend—and in the countless memories that will continue to speak long after this moment.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.”

May his memory be a blessing, and may his family feel the support of a community that will not walk alone.
