As a campus community, we should all be watching out for each other. That is exactly what three MCW members did during an emergency situation on campus.

On a recent morning, Kimberly, Emily, and Christian were all nearby when an individual was injured by their own vehicle in an MCW parking lot. All three quickly jumped into action by notifying MCW Public Safety, calling 911, tending to the individual, and protecting other pedestrians and property from further injury or damage. They each stayed on scene and provided aid until relieved by emergency responders. Their combined actions led to an expedited response from emergency services and kept the individual calm throughout the situation.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude for their response during this emergency. Their actions led to a safer outcome for everyone involved and serve as an outstanding example of the care and attention that defines our campus community. As a token of appreciation, we presented each with an MCW Challenge Coin and a Letter of Appreciation.

We wanted to recognize Byron from CleanPower, who works nights on our campus. On Tuesday night, Byron saw a woman walking around the first floor of the Hub for Collaborative Medicine building. Byron observed that she did not have a visible MCW ID and was also not wearing any shoes. He spoke with the woman and determined she had no reason to be on campus. Byron escorted the woman out of the building and then contacted Public Safety.

Further investigation by our department found that the woman was let in by an employee who did not verify if she was affiliated with MCW. The woman went on to steal several items from the Hub Cafe. Byron's attention to detail and vigilance most likely prevented the woman from stealing more items or causing additional problems.

We in Public Safety find it reassuring to know that there are people like Byron working at MCW who are committed to the safety and security of all those on campus.

As a sign of our appreciation, we provided Byron an MCW Public Safety Challenge Coin and a Letter of Appreciation.

Well done Byron!!
