Registration is open for the 2026 Student Sport Summit and Axthelm Memorial Lecture!

Our annual summit brings alumni from across the sports world to campus to meet and connect with our students. Attendees include Michael Huang, managing sports editor for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Leigh McGuirk, director of social media for University of Illinois Athletics and Tina Jones, executive director of Girls on the Run of Southeastern Wisconsin.

This year's lecture will be delivered by College of Comm alumna Jenny Fischer, senior social and digital/onsite content manager for the NBA.

Sophomores in the College of Comm are eligible for C-Lead!

This multiyear program focuses on the development of leadership skills. One-on-one work with mentors, professional development courses, and special, for-credit classes are just some of the ways that students in C-Lead will grow into better leaders.

We accept 20 new students each year! For questions, reach out to Program Director Julia Schultz at [email protected].

Diederich College of Comm alum Aaron Maybin, a reporter at WPLG Local 10 in Miami, is a Marquette Mentor...and YOU could be his next mentee.

The Selig-Jaffee Marquette Mentors paired more than 200 students with alumni mentors in dozens of states last year. This one-of-a-kind program creates yearlong partnerships between students and alums, forging bonds that kickstart careers and form the basis of lifelong friendships.

Sound like something you'd be interested in? Applications for students are due at noon on Sept. 9. If you're an alum, we're always looking for new mentor candidates too!

A new semester means new classes, new faces, new opportunities and many memories to make along the way. We asked our comm students what they’re looking forward to this semester, and they had a lot to say! 🙂

Here’s to a great semester! We can’t wait to see what you accomplish.

College of Comm, meet Bean! 🐶

Our new MUPD community support puppy made an appearance at Comm Fest, and we hope she and her big brother Blue make plenty more visits to Johnston Hall and Helfaer Theatre!

Welcome to campus, little buddy 🐾

Our warm welcome is a cold treat!

Nothing like Pete's Pops to get the first-year students excited about life on campus.

For an afternoon, strategic comm students made bvk, an intergrated marketing and communication firm in Bayside, their classroom.

They spoke with account managers, went over the ex*****on plans for successful campaigns and made connections that would last well beyond the afternoon.

"It was so insightful to hear about the career path I could take from professionals who are doing it now,” said rising sophomore Amelia Lerret.

This was all part of the Diederich Experience program, an initiative meant to connect comm students with alumni. While the Diederich Experience started with trips to visit alums in other cities, it's now being supplemented with regular visits to Milwaukee-area employers too.

A series of trips to local employers show College of Comm students all the possibilities that await them in their respective fields.

(P.S. Students, the Riverside Park branch of the UEC has a ton of cool nature activities and is an easy bus ride from campus; go check it out while the weather's still nice!)

Her article, "Digital Maternal Health Communication in Ghana Through a Sankofa Lens: The Case of Midwife Sally," uses a new theoretical model grounded in Afrocentric communication theory to explore how social media platforms bridge important communication gaps for expecting mothers.
