E-Board is proud to present our Psi Chi Member of the Month for March, Nancy Suárez Jimenez!
1. Why do you want to be a psych major?
I was originally admitted to Marquette as a Biomedical Sciences student, following a pre-dental track. Becoming a dentist had been my dream since I was about eight years old, and I did all that I could to reach this dream. Nevertheless, after an internship at a dentist office, I realized that it wasn't the job for me. I quickly realized that the profession didn't help people in the way I wanted to. I want to be able to bring joy back into the lives of those who find it hard to. As a dentist, I would have solely focused on the cosmetical/physical side of a smile, but I want to help bring true joy back to those who have lost it. In the field of psychology, I have the opportunity to do so! I can work with others and bring them hope. I can help them get a second chance at living life, happily. I want to be able to bring back joy and make the world better, one smile at a time.
2. What made you chose Marquette?
I chose Marquette quite simply because it offered me the chance to be the best-version-of-myself. This school strives to make its students into great leaders in the world and life, not just in their future professions. This school is focused on service, and this was a big pull for me as well. I want to become a leader that serves those whom I lead, and Marquette is the perfect place for me to become that person. Marquette is also located in a city full of opportunities and amusement. Milwaukee seemed to be a bustling "little-big" city that was perfect for me. It had a uniqueness to it that complements the campus.
3. What has been your favorite psychology class so far?
So far, going through the psychology classes, I have only taken general psychology. This isn't to say that it wasn't a good class, but I feel as though it really wouldn't be significant to say it was my favorite. It did, however, reacquaint me with the many topics and fields found in the psychology world. For what it's wort, it was informative, and for that, I am thankful.
4. What are your future plans?
For the recent future, I hope to get involved in research as soon as possible! After my undergraduate career, I hope to go to graduate school to become a clinical psychologist and make my family proud.
5. An interesting fact!
Lastly, my "fun fact" also comes with a message. I am a student under DACA. I am a DREAMER. I have a dream and even though my circumstances make it hard for me to reach my goal, it is not impossible. To all DREAMERS who see this, remember that we can make all our dreams come true. Don't let people tell you that you can't. Prove them wrong. Show them your success and live proudly. You deserve to be here. Keep fighting for your dream because we too have the right to live the lives we strive to live.
Congratulations, Nancy!
