☀Introducing Jocelyn ☀
✨What is your role, and what are your main responsibilities?
I am our Career Coordinator! I meet with students for 1:1 appointments for resume building, cover letter assistance, job searching, interview coaching, and interpretation appointments for CliftonStrengths and the Strong Interest Assessment. I work closely with first-year and prospective students who are undecided about what they want to study or what career they want to pursue. I also help coordinate departmental events, such as the Part-Time Job Fair, the Volunteer and Internship Fair, and College and Career Day.

✨How long have you been in your role, and what do you enjoy most about working here?
I have been with the Career Services department since October 2022. I enjoy helping students connect their interests and talents with meaningful career pathways. I also love working with students to apply to jobs and hearing from them once they get hired!

✨What hobbies or interests do you have outside of work?
I love biking – most days, if the weather cooperates, you can spot me biking to or from Minneapolis College on the Midtown Greenway or along Bryant Avenue. On weekends, I go on long rides with my partner to nearby towns like Stillwater and Wayzata, sometimes stopping at local bookstores, breweries, or cafes along the way! Next year, I plan to participate in RAGBRAI – a 500-mile group bike ride across my home state of Iowa.

✨How do you contribute to the college's overall mission and goals?
Part of my job is to work with prospective students and give them opportunities to learn about different programs we offer at the college or to help them gain exposure to different careers. I enjoy connecting with middle school and high school students to tell them about our college and all the great opportunities we offer. Then, once they become full-time students, I work closely with them to help them find internships, job shadowing, informational interviews, and search and apply for jobs.

✨Are there any causes or charitable organizations that are close to your heart?
I’m a huge advocate for being civically engaged! I love learning about city, state, and federal policies; advocating for issues I care about; and encouraging people to participate in elections. Every election, you can catch me working the polls. Although I now work in higher ed, my background is in political science, so I’m always down to talk about current events or help you register to vote 😊

As a Front Desk Assistant, I'm at the forefront of our organization's operations. I handle incoming calls and emails, set up appointments, manage our page, and approve job posts. My role ensures smooth communication and effective recruitment.

✨Hobbies and Interests:
Beyond work, I enjoy watching movies and TV series, cooking up new recipes, and diving into books. These hobbies provide relaxation and avenues for creativity in my free time.

✨Favorite Quote:

☀️Sadie's Strong Interest Assesment Review☀️

It was hard to decide what to major in I didn’t know what career path would be fulfilling and
successful for me and wanted to learn more about myself and my strengths before I chose my
major and career path. I went to Career Services and met with a counselor who introduced me
to the Strong Interest Inventory Test. The Strong Interest Inventory Test works by interviewing a
wide variety of adults who have said that they are happy and fulfilled in their careers. The test
then asks you the same questions as the people who love their jobs and then matches you up
with the career paths that based on your answers to the questions, might be more likely to be
successful and fulfilling for you. I took the test, and my answers aligned closely with those of
professionals in communications, HR, teaching, and visual artists. Therefore, I decided to major
in Communications, because it will give me many options of careers and also aligns closely with
my interests. The Career Services Department was very helpful in giving me advice and closely
working with me to interpret the meaning of my test results, listening to my feedback, and
ultimately empowering me with the knowledge to confidently move forward in picking a major

☀️Jessikah's Clifton Strengths Assessment Review☀️

When I first took the CliftonStrengths assessment, I was working full-time as a Project Manager, and they offered it as a tool for learning and having better internal communication. The assessment offers a great way to understand how the people around us function and flourish. I have recently retaken this test through Career Services at Minneapolis College. It’s interesting to see how my strengths have shifted over the years, and how some have become stronger or have changed over time. As a tool of self-evaluation and reflection, CliftonStrengths has had a profound impact on how I see myself through the lens of accomplishing goals. More specifically, I reflected on how I experience a sense of achievement when connecting with others as they pursue their interests. Knowing this information about myself has been incredibly empowering and has helped me feel in alignment with my career pathway and major. This is a FREE service that Minneapolis College Career Services offers, and I 10/10 recommend it!
