Whether you live in Grand Portage, Saint Paul or Luverne, the 2020 election is your opportunity to make your voice heard. There has been a lot in the media about whether to cast your vote via mail, or in person. And while national races dominate the conversation leading up to election day, the result of local elections can have as significant an impact on daily life. With November 3 rapidly approaching, this is an opportunity to review voting logistics and learn how to find important information so you can be knowledgeable about all of the races on your ballot.

Join Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon, UMN Morris Professor Tim Lindberg, and moderator Roshini Rajkumar for an insightful non-partisan conversation on local politics and voting ahead of the upcoming election. As Secretary of State, Steve (Law ‘96) partners with township, city, and county officials around the state to ensure an accessible and secure election for Minnesota’s nearly four million eligible voters. Tim (Morris ‘06) has deep knowledge in the area of political institutions and participation and is currently teaching a class “Democracy in Action." Roshini Rajkumar (Law ’97) is a former U of M Alumni Association board member, executive coach, and host of WCCO Radio’s Real Talk with Roshini.

This hour-long conversation will leave you feeling empowered with the resources and information you need to confidently cast your vote! Attendees will have an opportunity to submit questions that will be answered during the live broadcast.

**FULL STATEMENT ATTACHED**

Dear Alumni and Members,

The Muslim Alumni Network of the University of Minnesota is deeply upset and angered regarding the death of George Floyd and all black brothers and sisters who have unjustly lost their lives at the hands of senseless police brutality. Our condolences go out to the family of George Floyd and hope that justice is served swiftly and to the full extent of the law; we stand behind the maxim that ‘justice delayed is justice denied’.

If you would like to make a financial contribution to assist in the response to community needs in light of the murder of George Floyd, we encourage you to donate to Al-Maa’uun: LaunchGood.com/MN.

A current student at the University of Minnesota is looking to start a support group for Muslim graduate students on campus. If you would like to demonstrate interest in this group, please fill out the survey below and share it with other friends/colleagues who you think would be interested!

Brief Description: As more and more Muslims decide to pursue advanced degrees, we are faced with different challenges that may be difficult to overcome without the support of other Muslims who are in the same situation. We aspire for this organization to be one where Muslim graduate students can come together and share their stories and be sources of comfort and familiarity in a setting that is predominantly non-Muslim. This could be through fun and creative events that allow us to interact and share our passions!

Salaam! As more and more muslims decide to pursue advanced degrees, we are faced with different challenges that may be difficult to overcome without the support of other Muslims who are in the same situation. We aspire for this organization to be one where Muslim graduate students can come together....
