At the University of Minnesota - Department of Art, we believe that art has the power to transform our understanding of the world. Our students benefit from the resources of a world-renowned institution dedicated to research, education, and outreach. Our educators are committed to fostering creative expression and conceptual development through a broad range of art disciplines and practices, inclu

ding courses in painting and drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, and experimental media. Students pursue their work in our state-of-the-art facilities, mentored by our faculty, who are all artists recognized in their fields. With our work, we help to provide crucial leadership and context to the ongoing, urgent societal conversations that are taking place at the university and beyond, about our roles and responsibilities to ourselves, to one another, and to the planet itself. Come visit our 145,000 square feet of state-of-the-art facilities, attend a talk by artists and critics from our VAPC lecture series, or stop in to see an exhibition in our galleries for FREE. Our building, exhibitions, and events are open to the public and all are welcome here. Learn more about our areas of study, public programs, and creative practices at https://cla.umn.edu/art. Nash Gallery is a research laboratory for the practice and interpretation of the visual arts that presents exhibitions of local, regional, and international artists, as well as public programs and cultural events. We believe the visual arts have the capacity to interpret, critique, and expand on all of human experience. Our engagement with the visual arts helps us to discover who we are and understand our relationships to each other and society. We strive to be a center of discourse on the practice of visual art and its relationship to culture and community—a place where we examine our assumptions about the past and suggest possibilities for the future.
