We as the officers of the University of Minnesota Chapter of CNAfME stand against police brutality and recognize the murder of George Floyd as a result of systematic racism within our country and our police force. We support and appreciate Dr. Kim's statement to the School of Music, as well as the statements put out by MMEA and NAfME (links below and in comments).

As future music educators, we must stand up for and listen to our BIPOC students. One way of doing this is to educate ourselves now on issues of race and diversity in the music classroom. Both statements from MMEA and NAfME provide steps to diversify our music classrooms and be better teachers. We encourage everyone to take a look at these links below as the first step to a lifelong journey of educating ourselves and being there for our students.

Black Lives Matter. Ask yourselves what you can do today to help.

MMEA’s Statement and Actions to Address System Racism and Violence MMEA stands with our community, our state, our nation, and our world as we mourn the brutal police murder of George Floyd. It is time to take meaningful steps to put an end to systemic racism and violence against people of color an...
