Braden Lodge regrets to report the passing of Worshipful Brother David Potter. Some of you may have known him personally. Others may know him as the chef behind our murder mysteries and table lodges. A very active member of Braden for over a decade, and twice Master of the lodge, he was very much the heart of the lodge all that time. Whether it was cooking weekly meals or keeping brothers at lodge until the wee hours with his stories, he always made it a point to shake your hand. And he did all this while living in Rochester. Indeed, for many years now it has been hard to say where David Potter ended and Braden started. But now we will have to.
We were hoping to have some big events yet this year including a casino night, table lodge, and murder mystery, but I'm afraid all of those will be on hold now. We will proceed with our picnic on Thursday as an informal, impromptu memorial.
If you hadn't heard, he had a cyst that had ruptured. He was taken to the ER Saturday night, but it had already led to an incurable infection and the doctors didn't think he would survive a surgery, so there was little to be done. He did not regain consciousness but seemed to be resting comfortably until his passing a little bit ago.
I believe that all of us are made up of many parts, each of which has been formed by each of the people we have known in our lives. Today, it is not just a friend we have lost, but for many of us a significant part of ourselves as well. But of course that piece isn't truly gone, just altered, and in his case it will have left a significant mark on the world.
