It is with heavy hearts that we share that sister Sonia โSunshineโ Casale #38 passed away. Her light and spirit will live on in all who knew her, as she truly left an impact on those she met.
Sonia was the embodiment of positivity and enthusiasm. She truly had an infectious spirit, and you always felt good after leaving a conversation with her. Always supportive, you could count on Sonia to bring light to even the darkest situations.
Sonia was an amazing mother to baby J, and loved her husband Matt dearly. They were her pride and joy.
Sonia was the part of the Iota line, Gamma Daughter to Christina โDestinyโ Oey, and Gamma Mom to Zuri โGizhewaadiziโ Bender. She was the proud deuce of the Iota Line, and held that position proudly โ you can ask any other deuce that knew her. She was even nicknamed โDeucey Deuce!โ
During her time as an undergrad, Sonia helped grow the Sigma Alpha chapter to where it is today. She loved spending time with her line sisters, strolling in the Cinco de Mayo parade, and being involved on campus. Sonia was also a founder of the SLG Twin Cities Alumni Association and was active for many years.
Sonia held a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota majoring in Public Health, Family Social Science, and Life Science. She also held a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health in Public Health Administration and Policy, and a Mini MBA in Project Management from the University of St. Thomas.
