Saint Mary's University -Master of Arts in Instruction-Twin Cities Campus M.A. Instruction Considering a change in careers? Interested in the vibrant field of teaching? Our M.A. in Instruction (MAI) program is tailored to serve you.

The program is designed for those who have a bachelor’s degree but little or no previous coursework or experience in education. Whether you’ve recently graduated or have spent years pursuing another career, it’s never too late to make the transition to a career in teaching. Program Structure

The MAI program prepares students to become licensed teachers in the state of Minnesota. Master’s coursewo

rk focuses on cultivating teacher leadership and scholarship through research. Students choose from the following teacher preparation areas:

Elementary Education (K‒6) with a Middle School (5‒8) endorsement
Secondary Education (5‒12)
Communication Arts and Literature
Mathematics
Social Studies
Life Science
Physical Science
Specialty licensure (K‒12)
World Languages
Visual Art

The upcoming UnderTold Stories/Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting event will take place: November 13th & 14th.

This event, titled "Closing the Global Gap", will focus on the complex issue of education in a global era. Fred de Sam Lazaro from the Under-Told Stories Project and special guest Nathalie Applewhite, managing director of the Pulitzer Center, along with a panel of local experts will present a two-day forum focused on youth education in Minnesota, across the United States and around the globe.

The Twin Cities Event will take place on Tuesday, November 13th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the University Center, 2540 Park Avenue (formerly the Event Center)
The Winona Event will take place on Wednesday, November 14th from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Figliulo Recital Hall, SMU Winona Campus
Both events are free of charge to attend, RSVP's are requested.

The online materials for Missing Voices: Equity in Education are finally available! Register online by using the website www.smumn.edu/missingvoices
Join a diverse group of educators, youth and community members who want to work collaboratively to eliminate the opportunity gap in Minnesota. The first Equity in Education Summit is hosted by the Culturally Responsive Teaching program and the Graduate School of Education at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.
Hear one of the most dynamic and engaging experts in the nation, Dr. Sharroky Hollie, discuss why culture matters in schools. Dr. Hollie is the Executive Director of the Center for Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning, co-founder of Culture and Language Academy of Success (CLAS) – a K-8 charter built on culturally responsive pedagogy, and a professor at California State University, Dominguez Hills. He will explain why culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogy is necessary in transforming our system to work better for all students.
