Emerging Artists Collective

Emerging Artists Collective A space for 20-something creatives to be involved in the faith/arts conversation and to experience greater spiritual formation.

Located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Emerging Artists Collective has been a gathering space for creatives in their twenties who desire to participate in creative community. Rooted in the Christian story, the Collective exists to further the spiritual and artistic formation of creatives of all kinds. At this time, for a number of reasons, the EMC has gone fallow. However, at the right time, we ho

pe to discern what EMC's path will look like going forward. In the meantime, this page will highlight items of interest and local opportunities relevant to the art/faith conversation. Stay tuned for future developments! The Emerging Artists Collective was created by professors from the University of Northwestern - St. Paul, spearheaded by Judith Hougen, a creative writer and teacher. For more information on the Emerging Artists Collective, contact Judith Hougen at [email protected].

Quote of the day from writer Frederick Buechner: If we are to love our neighbors, before doing anything else we must see our neighbors. With our imagination as well as our eyes, that is to say like artists, we must see not just their faces but the life behind and within their faces. Here it is love that is the frame we see them in.

Writer Frederick Buechner notes, "Maybe nothing is more important than that we keep track of these stories of who we are because it is precisely through these stories that God makes himself known to each of us. If this is true, it means that to lose track of our stories is to be profoundly impoverished not only humanly but also spiritually." If you desire to meet God in the ground of your own story as well as learn more about writing, have time and inspiration to write, and experience nurture for your creative soul, then consider participating in the Summer Stories Workshop with Judith Hougen. Early bird rate available until June 8. It promises to be a significant weekend! Follow this link for details: http://judithhougen.blogspot.com/p/spiritual-writing-retreat-july-22-24.html

We had a great gathering tonight that included a short field trip to the MIA with Luke Aleckson at the helm. Luke's farewell time was the best--grateful for his investment in young creatives' lives.

A snippet of what's to come at our EAC gathering this Monday: "We're living vessels of God's presence in the world for mercy and love. Who you are in the world matters, and how you recognize the Kingdom of God within you brings Christ's hands into the immediate present....But is there something we can do in this moment alone, while collecting throughts, preparing? How about we do what God did to make all moments: create. Our God is one who imagines, makes, and revises. See our world, and see the being you are. And see Christ--an ultimate act of creation--God's being made real, dancing, walking, moving among the made."--Dave Harrity from Making Manifest. Join us as we host Dave at our April EAC gathering on April 6. It's going to be good. Hope to see you there.
