What do π, sensors, AI and supercomputing have in common? More than 100 curious New Code Academy middle schoolers now know the answer!

The energy, curiosity, and thoughtful questions from these young learners were truly inspiring. Moments like this remind us how important it is to introduce the next generation to the science and technology that power the modern world.

A huge thank you to our amazing partners Minnesota Nano Center, Minnesota Supercomputing Institute, , Twin Cities Section and specially to Amy Kienberger and the great teachers at Bloomington who helped make this day possible. Your support, enthusiasm, and dedication made this Pi Day celebration unforgettable for these students.

A Year in Review at IIB

This past year was filled with momentum, collaboration, and impact at the International Institute for Biosensing (IIB).

From inspiring lectures and impactful workshops on leadership and emerging technologies, to launching our STEM and K–12 initiatives, celebrating NanoDay, and strengthening national, international, and industry partnerships—we’ve been building together across disciplines. Biosensing sits at the intersection of science, technology, and real-world applications, and we’re excited to keep expanding this community in the year ahead.

Let’s carry this energy into the new year and continue shaping the future—together.

On Nov 5, the International Institute for BioSensing at the University of Minnesota in collaboration with Biomimetics International hosted a groundbreaking workshop on "Living Earth Twin: Harnessing the Exposome to Reimagine Sustainability".

We gathered an unprecedented mix of experts—from indigenous elders and shamans to academics from different backgrounds, engineers and industry, and economists—to dismantle the silos.

The consensus? It’s time to break the "Snow Globe."
