Hello - It's Kurt in Southern Africa. We have finally settled in Windhoek, Namibia, and started our classes!

Today, we visited Namibia's Parliament building as part of our class, "Political and Social Change in Africa." While there, we met with the honorable Member of Parliament Sharonice Busch, who spoke to us about the important role youth play in government. This excursion allowed us to better understand the political structure of Namibia and how different groups are able to interact with lawmakers. It's especially interesting to see how it is similar and different to the governments of our home countries!

This saturday we spent our free time at Cuernavaca’s centro!! After the first week of classes we wanted to spend some time exploring and seeing what the pueblo has to offer. We came across multiple street vendors that were selling everything from food to books and so much more! Hello everyone, this is Everlyn from Norway! 

During our time here in Norway, we had a wonderful opportunity to visit Oslo, where we explored the Norwegian Parliament, the National Museum, and Vigeland Park.
Our visit to the Norwegian Parliament gave us a unique opportunity to learn more about Norway’s political system and the decisions that shape Norway today. We also had the chance to learn more about the Norwegian history, culture, and national identity through our visits around the city.
We would also like to take a moment to acknowledge the recent passing of King Harald V. We extend our condolences to the people of Norway and the Royal Family during this time of mourning.
Throughout all these adventures, we had another exciting opportunity hosted by Østfold University for international students to go climbing at Klatring på Grensen! It was a wonderful chance to step outside our comfort zones, make new friendships, and create memories together while settling into our first few weeks of classes.
For the rest of this week, we will be wrapping up the essays we’ve been working hard on before getting ready for our upcoming trip to Copenhagen, Denmark!

Hii everyone it’s Diana in Mexico!! 🇲🇽

Last week we had the greatest opportunity to learn about the Nahua community at Amatlán, Morelos. The Nahua community has dedicated their life to their teachings and on this trip we were able to participate in one of their rituals. We had an amazing time asking our guide Ignacio questions about the Nahua community and with his wisdom we learned so much. The hike was an amazing experience to connect with nature and to just relax and hangout with staff members and classmates. We will be back so keep an eye out for new Amatlan videos with the Nahua community.

Hii everyone it’s Diana in Mexico!🇲🇽

Last week we went to the Mercado López Mateos to complete a market survey. We went to look for some ingredients we were going to use for our dinner. This survey was meant to see the realities that many Mexican families face because of the pay wage they receive. Unfortunately the pay wage in Mexico isn’t enough for families to buy groceries, pay rent, utilities etc. This survey was definitely an eye opener and a great learning experience.

Hello - this is Kurt from Southern Africa. What a week!

Of the several sites we visited in Johannesburg, the Apartheid Museum was one of the most impactful. Although we are only in South Africa for a short time, learning about Apartheid is crucial to understanding the past and present of this beautiful country.
We also visited Lesedi Cultural Village, which gave us a look at what village life looks like for the different tribes in southern Africa.
Later that day, we started our first homestays in Soweto. My host mom, Mama Lucky, took me and other students to the mall for some ice cream! It was a spectacular experience that pushed all of us out of our comfort zones.
After that, we boarded our flight to Cape Town - a beautiful city. Check out the sunrise view from our hotel!

The rest of this week, we will be exploring Cape Town until we fly to Windhoek, Namibia, to begin classes!

Hii everyone it’s Diana in Mexico!

Yesterday we went to the Centro in Cuernavaca which is about a 15 minutes walk from Casa Augsburg and we were assigned a scavenger hunt to help us get around the Centro. This was a great activity to explore and see everything the Centro has to offer. I attached some photos and videos of some of the things that were happening while we were there. :)) At the end of this scavenger hunt our amazing IRA Valerie gave us a prize for exploring!!

Hola! Its Raven in Guatemala! Today we finished our orientation week in Guatemala. After we all landed, we spent our first few nights at Casa Emaus in Guatemala City. We ate delicious, home cooked food provided by the wonderful staff at Casa Emaus while being given an introduction on the history of Guatemala from two different perspectives— that of the Guatemalan government and that of the indigenous Mayans.

On our way to Quetzaltenango, commonly referred to as Xela, we stopped at two archeological sites where our wonderful and insightful guides provided us with some cultural and spiritual history on Mayan architecture and culture.

In Xela, we are staying at Hotel Los Olivos while we explore downtown Xela and explore how to appropriately and effectively learn about Guatemala’s history of colonialism and its culture.

It has been an amazing week and we are so excited to go to our home-stays and begin our spanish lessons!

A warm greetings from Norway! 🇳🇴

This Everlyn, and I wanted to share our official first week in Norway! We had a wonderful orientation at Østfold University College across both the Halden and Fredrikstad campuses, where we had the opportunity to learn more about the university, participate in a variety of activities, and meet fellow international students from around the world.

As we settled into our new surroundings, we also began our official classes, exploring the Nordic Model and gaining a deeper understanding of Norway’s history, political development, and social institutions. Outside the classroom, we had the chance to experience Fredrikstad firsthand on a tour that our professor Harald Borgebund led, learning about the ferry system, exploring the town, and getting to know the local community around us.

A special thank you to our program director, Bettine Hoff, and professor, Bengt Morten, for welcoming us with a wonderful dinner during our first few days! It was a great opportunity to connect, learn more about Norwegian society, and begin exploring the innovation, sustainability, and social systems.
