The Center for Global Education and Experience Study Abroad Learning for changemakers. Study abroad/away and global online programs for everyone. We operate in Mexico, Central America, Southern Africa, Myanmar, and Cuba.

Since 1979, the Augsburg University Center for Global Education and Experience has offered summer, semester, and short-term study abroad programs for undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and the general public. Our intercultural and experiential programs are rooted in social justice and prioritize exposure to the voices of the marginalized. Our staff members and faculty average 12 years of international education experience in our host countries, which translates into unparalleled access to local communities and people. Hiii everyone it’s Diana from Mexico🇲🇽,

This weekend Augsburg students and International House had a trip to CDMX which was divided in two parts. First stop was at Casa Tochan which is a migrant shelter. When arriving we had a seminar with the director of Tochan and with current migrants. We heard so many migrant stories on deportation and migrating to a new country and their experiences being in Mexico. This shelter has people from all over the world including Honduras, China, Russia, Pakistan, etc. We also got a house tour of the shelter and learned the type of services they offer which is all free for migrants there. At the end we got to eat some delicious tostadas made by the migrant cooks. To end it off we took a picture and said our goodbyes. Hello everyone, it’s Everlyn from Norway! 🇳🇴 Here’s a little recap of our class excursion to Copenhagen, Denmark! 🇩🇰

We spent a whole week exploring Copenhagen, learning, and experiencing so much together. From visiting the Church of Our Saviour and Freetown Christiania to the Nordic Council and the Happiness Museum, it was such a great opportunity to see and experience things beyond class.
One thing I’ve really appreciated about the study abroad program in Norway is getting to explore the Nordic system beyond just what we learn in class. Seeing different aspects of Danish society and culture made me reflect even more on welfare, quality of life, and what makes the Nordic countries so unique. And of course, getting to share this experience with everyone in our program made it even more special.
So grateful for the memories, the learning experiences, and the opportunity to explore another Nordic country together!

A big shoutout to our program director, Bettine Louise Hermanson, and Bengt Morten for making experiences like this possible! 🫶🏼

Hey hey! This is Kurt in Swakopmund, Namibia!

This week we are traveling around Swakopmund and Walvis Bay to learn about the Herero and Nama genocide, human rights, and housing issues. Although difficult, learning about the challenges facing Namibia has been interesting, rewarding, and an invaluable part of our time here. Outside of those conversations, we've been able to visit some of Namibia's spectacular natural wonders, including Pink Lake. The lake is pink due to a combination of salt, bacteria, and algae. We also climbed Dune 7 - a challenging but rewarding experience. Scroll to slide 5 to see the message we left at the top 👀. Earlier today, we went quad biking on the dunes, which was so much fun!

Next week we will be in Etosha National Park, so keep an eye out for some animal pictures!

Hii everyone it’s Diana from Mexico🇲🇽,

Here is part 2 of our Puebla trip. I wasn’t able to capture everything in the last video so I wanted to attach some more pictures I got along the way. In the end you can see us with our host families!! We are currently in week two of our local homestay here in Cuernavaca, Morelos!! This day trip to Puebla was definitely a great experience to have fun with our host families. If you have any questions regarding homestays please reach out and I would be happy to let you know about our experiences!

Hii everyone it’s Diana from Mexico 🇲🇽,

This weekend we went to Puebla and went to Cholula and the center of Puebla which was full of so many things to see. We saw so many artesanos selling beautiful art and so many great views as well. Since this was a trip to spend with our host families we all got to know each other better and just create memories together. There will be another Puebla post because not everything was captured through video.

Hi everyone, this is Valerie, your IRA from Cuernavaca, Morelos in Mexico! 🇲🇽

The first month studying abroad in Cuernavaca has flown by and I wanted to ask students, “what has been your favorite part about this first month studying abroad?”. I sat down with our students this semester and interviewed them. From experiencing Mexican culture to taking Spanish classes, meeting speakers from all kind of backgrounds, and going on life changing excursions— this first month has been amazing.🤓☺️🇲🇽

Hello - this is Kurt in Wanaheda, Namibia!

We have spent the week with Namibian families as part of our Windhoek homestays. Today, my family took me and another student to the Windhoek Agricultural Show, an annual fair at the city showgrounds. It reminded me of a county fair in America, complete with amusement rides and fried food! Getting to live with a family has been extremely informative and rewarding. And the food has been delicious!
