A proud moment for Executive MBA grad John Pogatschnik became even more meaningful when he got to share this milestone with his youngest. “Completing my MBA degree from Opus College is an accomplishment, but watching my kids grow and learn as their father is even greater.”

One experience provided a broader perspective of the world. The other created a safe space to be creative and explore. "Or maybe," as John puts it, "it's not mutually exclusive at all."

Happy Father's Day weekend to all the dads growing alongside their kids.

Looking to get more value from the AI tools you're already using?

On August 5, faculty Mark Price and Katie Berry will lead the first session of our new AI Speaker Series. They'll walk through practical examples, show what separates a useful prompt from one that falls flat, and introduce a framework for AI prompting that you can start using right away.

The event is free and open to all St. Thomas alumni and students. Stay for networking and refreshments following the session!

Between late-night discussions, caffeine, academic survival, and having a handful of sneakerheads in the mix, Health Care MBA Cohort 32 wanted to leave a mark.

"Our class was filled with some of the brightest minds I’ve ever been exposed to - and nobody showed up with an ego," said Laura Holthaus '26 HCMBA. "Surgeons, high achievers, ridiculously smart people… and yet somehow we were all just a bunch of goofballs together."

So naturally, they made sneakers. "We wanted something we’d keep forever."

The shoes became a symbol of the culture they built together in the Health Care MBA program: ambitious, supportive, smart, competitive, hilarious, and human.

"To everyone else they may just look like shoes," said Holthaus. "But for us, they became something that tied us together even more. Years from now we’ll look back and instantly remember the people, the laughter, the growth, and this season of life we shared."

When their local communities needed support, these Opus College alumni used the businesses they had built to respond. Stephanie Ayala turned her south Minneapolis coffee shop, Easy Day Cafe, into a collection site for food and essential supplies. Ayub (Yubi) Hassan provided BlueHorn Tea at community gatherings. Jazz Hampton, Esq and his team at TurnSignl helped connect people with legal information and resources.

Ayala credits her MBA program with influencing how she leads and engages with her community. "I've really leaned into our mission," she said. "We have the ability to influence, and you can influence people in a really good way."

Many conversations about AI focus on speed, efficiency and what the technology can do next.

Seth Ketron, an associate professor of marketing at Opus College, studies how emerging tech is already influencing the way people shop, interact and make decisions. His work focuses on consumer behavior, sensory marketing and tech like virtual and augmented reality, including how digital experiences can shape perception, trust and choice.

One area he’s watching closely is the shift from scripted virtual experiences to environments that respond in real time. In retail, that could mean adaptive shopping spaces that subtly change around consumers as they browse.
