Big congratulations to our Saddleback College Interior Design students, Yearang Song and Natascha Kruusi! ✨✨

Both received Honorable Mention Awards in the IIDA Southern California Best of Design 2026 Student Competition and are invited to the Calibre event in Los Angeles at the end of May.

We are especially proud because they competed alongside students from four-year programs and represented Saddleback beautifully. They shared their Studio II commercial projects, developed during the fall semester, and their hard work truly shined.

Thank you to IIDA SoCal for organizing this wonderful opportunity, and to the judges for sharing their time, experience, and encouragement with our students.

Our students in ID 180WE – Interior Design Work Experience are taking their learning beyond the classroom.

✨ We are beyond proud to celebrate our student Natascha Kruusi, who won 1st Place in the 2026 Barbour Spangle Interior Design Competition at the Bienenstock Furniture Library — a national student design competition.

Her project, Steel + Oak Gallery, impressed the judges with its lighting strategy, architectural clarity, and thoughtful integration of signage.

Even more incredible? The competition is judged blind, meaning jurors do not know which schools are represented — and this marks the fourth year in a row that a Saddleback Interior Design student has earned top recognition.

It’s a powerful reflection of our students’ creativity, discipline, and commitment to excellence.

✨ Student Spotlight: Yearang Song

Earlier in February, Yearang Song represented Saddleback College Interior Design at PlatForm 2026, hosted by Woodbury University at Gensler Los Angeles. The event highlighted outstanding community college students in architecture and interior design across Southern California.

At the event, Yearang presented two of her projects. In this post, we’re highlighting Prismantle, a concept gallery exploring fashion as art through immersive installations and layered architectural spaces, created in Studio II.
