Every journey matters. Every story has power.
At WBU-RGV, weโre constantly inspired by the resilience and determination of our students. Some stories remind us why we do what we do, and todayโs weโre honored to share one of those.
Raul Guerrero allows us to share his journey, and we hope it encourages others who may be walking a similar path.
Returning to education after many years away can be a daunting yet rewarding journey. From signing up multiple times, just to drop from the school and not be ready for the commitment I had for my education degree was enough for me to say this one was the final step and needing to finish. For me, the inspiration to pursue my academic dreams came from the unwavering support of my wife, children, and family. They encouraged me to finish my studies, knowing how important it was for our future. Having my wife's favorite quote for me in my head when I thought it was hard and just to quit again "if it was easy, everyone would do it". Balancing two jobs while being a dedicated family man made this path challenging, yet it was also incredibly fulfilling. Knowing I have work and homework and deadlines to meet, working tirelessly knowing this would pay out in a big way. Knowing my three children witness my determination to fulfil my future plans of becoming a teacher and coach has made every struggle worthwhile. This achievement symbolizes not just a personal victory, but also a testament to dedication, perseverance, and the importance of setting an example for the next generation. Wayland Baptist University was really great to me. From the start to finish, the set up of starting up again and making sure my credits did transfer, to the online classes and face to face classes I had. Professors were very professional and open for questions and lent a helping hand when needed. My advisor was great too, from answering emails, to helping me with the degree plan of what I needed to get done and what semesters to take them in.
