Mark your calendars! We are so excited to announce that we will be having our quarterly social on Tuesday, March 17th! We will enjoy a fun-filled night at the JSU vs. MSU baseball game!

We had so much fun during our Independent Living Skills unit in January! We talked about components of independent living, respectful behavior when living with others, building routines, and public transportation safety! During our community outing, we put our transportation safety skills to the test by riding the SMART bus to our apartment tour of ! We are so grateful for their help! After our wonderful tour, we ate lunch together at Boardtown Pizza! We can’t wait for February!

Reminiscing on all of the fun we had during our October and November units! In October, we learned about healthy eating and smart choices! We also attended a cooking class in our brand new kitchen at the Duff Center! In November, we learned about employment skills and had a fabulous lunch at The Grill with all of our family and friends! We can’t wait for December!

In September’s U-THRIVE unit, we learned about money management! We learned about banking, saving, budgeting, and how to become a smart shopper! To practice our money management skills, we played The Price is Right together at our community outing! September was full of fun and we cannot wait to see what October brings!

We had so much fun in the month of August! We learned about different elements of social relationships and how to be smart communicators! Our community outing was full of fun opportunities to meet each other and play games! We were also so excited to implement a new part of our program: the quarterly social! For our first quarterly social, we painted pottery together at Jilly Bean’s Pail of Paint and enjoyed smoothies from Juva! We cannot wait to see what September has in store! We look forward to seeing everyone on Webex tomorrow!

The wonderful experiences everyone in U-THRIVE shares wouldn’t be possible, or nearly as exciting, without the help of the incredible business partners we have had the pleasure of working with to host and cater our community outings we look so forward to.🫱🏼‍🫲🏻 Through the support of these businesses, we have been able to arrange social gatherings and activities that have created unforgettable lessons and memories for all of our lovely members.❤️ To list off a few of the amazing contributions we have received, we have been able to enjoy interactive community events along with catering at places like The Gathering Starkville, Harvey’s along with MDRS guest speakers, and Rick’s Cafe🍽️🎪 as well as other experiences such as touring the beautiful Bountiful Harvest Farms to learn about healthy, naturally grown food🍅🥬, touring Dudy Noble and Davis Wade Stadium thanks to the guides at the MSU Welcome Center🏈⚾️, engaging in a Q&A discussion with the owner of Tidy Girls about maintaining a clean home🧹🧽, and enjoying an easy daily workout tutorial at the OCH Wellness Center that was a whole lot of fun!🏋️🏃‍➡️ We are extremely thankful for all that they do for us and the local community and look forward to working together again in the future for more awesome lessons and memories! When you’re a part of U-THRIVE, you’re no stranger to fun times and exciting memories!😄 As the U-THRIVE year progresses, we all enjoy meeting up for our monthly Community Outings to engage in exciting activities such as socializing with each other😃, interactive and fun games🎮🧩, meeting local partners and businesses who offer a variety of services🫱🏼‍🫲🏻, and eating tasty catered food and snacks to keep us fueled and ready to practice the important skills we learn in our virtual meetings!🍕 In the last year, we have had the pleasure of touring the Mississippi State baseball and football stadiums, touring local farms that supply most of our daily foods, engaging in money management activities while also competing in a friendly costume contest for Halloween, learning simple yet effective at-home workouts, and so much more.
