Being the first in your family to go to college means learning how to do hard things with no roadmap—figuring out applications and financial aid, asking for help, working your way through school, and believing in a future you’ve never seen up close. Those same skills prepare you to tackle life after graduation and to open doors for everyone who comes after you.

Leaders like our own division vice president, Dr. Keith Coble, show what’s possible when a first-generation student keeps going. From a dairy farm to a college campus to the VP’s office, his journey proves that earning a degree can change the trajectory of an entire family.

Every day, Mississippi State University is proud of our first-generation college students and alumni. We’re cheering on every Bulldog who is blazing a trail so the next generation can dream even bigger, start even further ahead, and go even higher. 💫

This week, Mississippi State University is celebrating first-generation college students (students who are first in their families to attend college).

Fun fact: Dr. Keith Coble was a first-gen college student!

Thinking about your future career? The job market in agriculture is booming!

A new national report on employment (2025-2030) for graduates in food, agriculture, and natural resources (FARNRE) shows job opportunities are incredibly strong.

Here are the key takeaways:

HUGE DEMAND: There are an average of 104,766 job openings annually in the field.

THE #1 SPOT: The single largest employment area is Business and Management, making up 41% of all available jobs (that's over 42,000 jobs a year!).

THE OPPORTUNITY: The report also shows the biggest gap between available jobs and qualified graduates is in the Business and Management category. Companies need leaders!

This is where you come in.

The Agribusiness program in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Mississippi State University is specifically designed to prepare you for these high-demand, high-paying leadership roles. We're training the next generation of managers, analysts, and entrepreneurs to fill that gap.

Ready to secure your future in a field that's hiring?
