Last week, seventeen members of the Stennis-Montgomery Association had the amazing opportunity to visit Washington, D.C.! While there, students met with members of the Mississippi Congressional Delegation, MSU alumni, and many amazing professionals. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took the time to meet with us, share their experiences, and offer some amazing insight into careers in public service.

We have so many great photos to share, but here are a few of our favorites to start!

Tonight! Join the Stennis-Montgomery Association as we hear from Lynn Spruill, Mayor of Starkville. Mayor Spruill is a Starkville native and graduate of Starkville High School and Mississippi State University. A former U.S. Naval Officer and pilot, she became the first woman in Navy history to qualify as a carrier pilot in 1979, later served as Mayor of Addison, Texas, and earned a joint JD/MPA from Georgia State University. After returning to Starkville in 2004, she led Spruill Property Management, served as Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Starkville, and has served as Mayor of Starkville since 2017.

Meet the 2026 Washington, D.C. delegation of the Stennis-Montgomery Association!

Each year, our most dedicated SMA members get the unique opportunity to network with MSU alumni, congressional staff, and policy professionals on a weeklong trip to the nation’s capital. This trip provides our students with the chance to gain hands-on experience in the political landscape. As a non-partisan student organization, SMA empowers students from all backgrounds and disciplines to engage in public service and professional development while representing Mississippi State University on a national stage.

We are so proud of our 2026 delegation and can’t wait to see them make an impact in D.C. next month!
