MSU Intergenerational Conservation Camps

MSU Intergenerational Conservation Camps At the intergenerational camps, the campers are given the opportunity to not only explore nature, but to experience nature--to investige it! Why? Again, why?

It is a fun, and exciting way to learn science! The program is designed for children ages 10-99! Dates of the 2011 year's camps are:

Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Camp 1* (June 12 - June 16, 2011)

Basic Insect & Plant Ecology (June 19 - 23, 2011)

Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Camp 2* (June 26 - 30, 2011)

*Camps 1 and 2 are the same camp offered at two different times. Registrati

on fees* for each camp includes food, MSU housing, activities on campus and at the Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge, and on-site transportation (transportation to/from Starkville, MS excluded). Bug Camp:

Mississippi State University’s Basic Insect and Plant Ecology camp, better known as Bug Camp, is the oldest residential entomology camp in the world. Two MSU departments sponsor the camp: the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture and the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology. Bug and Plant Camp will carry you deeper into entomology than you can imagine. You will go from novice to proficient in 5 days and you will never look at insects the same again. We have had parents that accompany their children to their first camps who have continued to camp with us even after their children left for college! We have special permission to collect on the Noxubee Refuge - and collecting on the refuge is great! The Mississippi State Department of Health and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks cooperate in setting up and running a wildlife CSI activity. Sessions and activities include: mosquito monitoring, medical entomology, forest entomology, insect photography, a tour of a bee hive and honey tasting, insect rearing, insect plant interactions (hike),GPS, entomological or nature art, forensic entomology, insectivorous plants, aquatic insects and MDEQ sponsored water quality, etc. Wildlife Camp:

Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture Camp is a camp that could be wonderful for all ages. Families could enjoy time learning with their children, and the children always enjoy learning with one another at these camps. Because we make learning fun! Wildlife camp includes hands on activities such as fly fishing and fly tying, cat fishing, archery and bow fishing, tomahawk throwing, skeet shooting, seining, and tanning. Campers will also have the opportunity to learn from briefings on and participate in the examination of night sounds, macro invertebrate sampling and water quality, shock boat demonstration, a deer necropsy, Private Eye, Nature Poetry, GPS, nature Art, birding, astronomy, weather forecasting, trapping, and SCUBA diving. Hunter Ed and Boater Safety is included. Teachers may also attend these camps and receive close to 5 CEUs for their participation. You can guarantee a jam PACK week of fun. Because learning can be fun--with hands on exploration the campers only want more....

*are: $350 per person (children or parent/guardian)**
You are only required to pay a deposit at this time ($100 per person). This deposit is non-refundable.

**We are seeking parents/teachers to serve as dorm monitors at each camp (one male and one female monitor per camp). Dorm monitors must have a child enrolled in the camp for which they serve as monitor, must be present for the entire camp, and must stay in the dorms at night to supervise campers (males for male dorms, females for female dorms).
