The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships encourages all students and their families to review these changes and consider how these changes may affect financial planning for the upcoming academic year. Welcome back to Real Talk: Financial Aid 👋

Verification is a process that some students go through after they submit their FAFSA. If a student's FAFSA is selected for verification, that means that our office needs some additional information from you before we can award any federal financial aid. It does not mean that you have done anything wrong. It's just a routine step for many students. No federal financial aid can be awarded until this process is complete, so it's important to ensure that you submit any requested documentation in a timely manner. MSU students can check their status by logging into their Financial Aid Dashboard. Making sure that you are staying organized and checking your dashboard regularly for updates can help avoid delays in receiving your aid.

Submitting the FAFSA is a critical step in accessing financial assistance for your education. Submit your 2026-27 FAFSA and any verification documents by these priority dates to have aid ready for fall:
April 1: FAFSA submission
June 1: Verification docs (if applicable)
Check your financial aid dashboard to see if we have received your FAFSA or to see if you have outstanding verification requirements.
