Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine (MSU-CVM) is one of four colleges of veterinary medicine in the United States to offer a four-year Bachelorโ€™s degree program in veterinary medical technology. Nationwide there are fewer than 20 four-year veterinary technology programs. The MSU-CVM Veterinary Medical Technology (VMT) Program will graduate students who will fill positions a

ssociated with food animal, equine and small animal practices; public health organizations; federal and state regulatory agencies; animal related industries; laboratory animal medicine; animal and biomedical research; zoo and wildlife practices and shelter practices. The VMTP is fully accredited by the AVMA Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (AVMA CVTEA)

CVM is fully accredited by the Council of Education at The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). University Accreditation is accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools

Continuing our Senior Spotlight series for our Veterinary Medical Technology students, we are excited to feature Maggie Clark from Neoga, Illinois!

We asked her a few questions about her experience in the MSU VMT Program and her plans for the future:

๐Ÿฉบ What is your area of interest in veterinary medicine?
I am particularly interested in small animal ER and ICU medicine.

๐Ÿพ What was your favorite experience in the MSU VMT Program?
My favorite experience was my ER/ICU and small animal internal medicine rotations. I loved working alongside the technicians and veterinarians in these departments, and they taught me so much during the time I spent there.

๐Ÿ“š What is one important learning experience that will help you after graduation?
Learning to stay calm and adaptable in fast-paced situations will help me tremendously as I begin working in ER/ICU.

๐Ÿ’ฌ What advice would you give to the junior class?
Ask questions and talk to people! Everyone in the hospital is so kind and willing to help. Iโ€™ve built great relationships with veterinary students and staff members throughout my senior year, and those connections have taught me so much.

๐ŸŽฏ What are your plans after graduation?
I will be staying at MSU CVM as an ER/ICU technician!

โœจ What advice would you give to students considering applying to the program?
Donโ€™t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. This program teaches you so much and gives you incredible hands-on experience.

We asked her a few questions about her experience in the MSU VMT Program and her plans for the future:

๐Ÿฉบ What is your area of interest in veterinary medicine?
I am particularly interested in small animal medicine.

๐Ÿพ What was your favorite experience in the MSU VMT Program?
I think my favorite experience while being in the program has been my senior year clinical rotations. Being able to see different aspects of veterinary care, from large animal to small animal rotations, has been such a rewarding experience.

๐Ÿ“š What is one important learning experience you believe will help you once you graduate from our VMT Program?
I think one important learning experience that will help me once I graduate from the MSU VMT Program is the hands-on experience I have gained throughout the program. Being able to practice skills in real clinical settings has helped me build confidence in my abilities and trust the knowledge I have learned in the classroom.

๐Ÿ’ฌ What advice would you give to the junior class?
If I could give one piece of advice to the junior class, it would be to trust your knowledge and be yourself when you get into clinics. It can feel intimidating at first, but remember that you have learned so much throughout the program and are there to continue growing.

๐ŸŽฏ What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to work at a small animal practice and continue my studies to apply to veterinary school in the future.

โœจ What advice would you give to students considering applying to the program?
If I could give one piece of advice to students considering applying to the program, it would be to just apply! It was the best decision I could have made. It is challenging, but incredibly rewarding, and it truly prepares you for your future in veterinary medicine.

๐ŸŽ“ Graduation is only TWO days away! ๐ŸŽ“

On May 15th, our Veterinary Medical Technology Class of 2026 will celebrate their Pinning Ceremony at 9:30 AM, followed by graduation on the Mississippi State University main campus. We are incredibly proud of all the hard work, dedication, and perseverance these students have shown throughout their journey in the VMT program. ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿพ

Veterinary medicine is a field filled with compassion, resilience, teamwork, and heart. Those who have worked in vet med know that while some days can be challenging, the impact you make on animals, clients, and your team makes it all worthwhile in the end.

Whether you graduated from our program, another veterinary technology program, are a DVM, family member, friend, coworker, or supporter of veterinary medicine, help us congratulate our senior class!

We asked her a few questions about her experience in the MSU VMT Program and her plans for the future:

๐Ÿฉบ What is your area of interest in veterinary medicine?
I am particularly interested in small animal internal medicine and ICU, as well as large animal medicine.

๐Ÿพ What was your favorite experience in the MSU VMT Program?
My favorite experience was having the opportunity to travel to different states during my externship. It allowed me to work in a variety of clinics and interact with different client demographics.

๐Ÿ“š What is one important learning experience that will help you after graduation?
Being able to rotate through different departments and build connections with both instructors and peers has been incredibly valuable and will continue to help me throughout my career.

๐Ÿ’ฌ What advice would you give to the junior class?
Life will challenge you in unexpected ways, and itโ€™s okay to feel vulnerable. Embracing these moments and learning from them will make you stronger, both personally and professionally.

๐ŸŽฏ What are your plans after graduation?
My plan is to stay at the veterinary college for another year to gain more experience, then return to my home clinic to work and save financially. Eventually, I hope to move to Las Vegas, Nevada, to explore new directions in my career.

โœจ What advice would you give to students considering applying to the program?
Be clear about your goals and interests and make thoughtful decisions that align with them. Take advantage of every opportunity the program offers.

Continuing our Senior Spotlight series for our Veterinary Medical Technology students, we are excited to feature DeMarria Brown from Natchez, Mississippi!

We asked her a few questions about her experience in the MSU VMT Program and her plans for the future:

๐Ÿฉบ What is your area of interest in veterinary medicine?
I am particularly interested in anesthesia, food animal medicine, and small animal ER/ICU. I enjoy working with a wide variety of species and value every opportunity to expand my knowledge and skills to further my career in the veterinary field. I also find it especially rewarding to build meaningful connections with each animal I encounter.

๐Ÿพ What was your favorite experience in the MSU VMT Program?
My favorite experience has been applying the technical skills I learned in class during clinical rotations. Performing successful venipunctures on both large and small animals, monitoring anesthesia, and taking radiographs have all been incredibly rewarding moments.

๐Ÿ“š What is one important learning experience that will help you after graduation?
Learning to accept constructive criticism has been essential. Every professional has their own techniques, and being open to feedback allows for continuous growth. This mindset will help me improve my efficiency, strengthen my skills, and provide higher-quality patient care.

๐Ÿ’ฌ What advice would you give to the junior class?
Build strong, respectful relationships with your instructors. During clinical rotations, their guidance and support are invaluable. Being professional and approachable creates an environment where you can ask questions, learn more, and grow beyond just hands-on skills.

๐ŸŽฏ What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to pursue a position in small or large animal ER/ICU. Iโ€™m excited to continue growing in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

โœจ What advice would you give to students considering applying to the program?
Be confident in yourself. This program can be challenging, but it is incredibly rewarding. Donโ€™t doubt your abilities, and never hesitate to ask questions.

From day one to the clinic floor, this class has come such a long way. Theyโ€™ve put in the work, built their skills, and are now confidently applying what theyโ€™ve learned in real-world scenarios ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’‰
