We are helping Bulldogs develop dynamic skills through five academic departments at our main campus in Starkville and the division of education at our Meridian campus. Our academic programs span teacher education, kinesiology, music, educational psychology, industrial technology, learning and user experience design, and more. Driven to make a difference, we are home to a leading-edge research unit

, as well as transformative service units, such as the Mississippi Institute on Disabilities and the National Research and Training Center on Blindness and Low Vision. Our faculty are collaborating to discover solutions to today’s tough challenges while providing hands-on learning opportunities for students. Freeman Scholar Spotlight: Ashlyn Hope Armstrong
Ashlyn has served as an assistant teacher for five years at Greenlee Attendance Center in McCool. Now equipped with her newly earned bachelor’s degree in elementary education, she will step into a new role as a kindergarten teacher there this fall!

“Ever since I was five years old, I knew I wanted to be a teacher because I’ve always loved helping and encouraging others as they learn new things. Teaching feels natural to me, and I want to be the kind of teacher that makes students feel safe, confident, and excited to come to school.”

Freeman Scholar Spotlight: Victoria Pigg
Victoria is among the first graduating class of the Bebe Freeman PANTA Teacher’s Assistant Annual Scholarship, generously funded by Harry Freeman in memory of his wife. The scholarship supports public school teacher assistants pursuing an education degree.

Victoria is a teacher assistant at Leake Central Elementary School and, with her newly earned bachelor’s degree in elementary education, will step into a new role as a fourth-grade math teacher there this fall!

“To teach is to change a life forever, and that belief is the reason I chose to become an educator. The Harry Freeman Scholarship has given me the opportunity to continue pursuing my education and preparing to make a meaningful impact in the classroom.”

Our music faculty and students from various majors performed toe-tapping, iconic jazz and big band hits during a recent concert with the Starkville-MSU Symphony. Under the direction of Dr. Daniel Stevens, the concert celebrated the golden age of jazz with full symphonic color.
