Sustainability has been integrated into many aspects of our campus community and we strive to connect our understanding of sustainability to our lives both on and off campus. The UM Office of Sustainability and the ASUM Sustainability

Center are responsible for the content of this site. Consistent with the broader concept of sustainability, the University's initiatives ultimately seek to enhance students' understanding of the interconnectedness of ecological, social, and economic issues.

Starting Monday, 8/31, the Loop Thrift Store will be implementing its new Fall 2026 regular hours! Located in Lommasson 120, the Loop is an on-campus thrift store. Need something for your dorm, want to do some light shopping, or just need something to do? Swing by through the South entrance to check out what we have!

Last week, a group of incoming students had the opportunity to work alongside the Office of Sustainability for their Big Sky Experience! These students spent two days learning about sustainability initiatives across campus, getting a tour of , and participating in a waste audit. Their work showed that of the 342.2 lbs of material found in the University Center trashcans, 74% were items that could have been diverted from the landfill to be composted or recycled!

Today was the grand opening of The Loop, UM’s very first thrift store on campus located in the Lommasson Building (the old food zoo)! We have everything you could ever need for your dorm room, so come check us out. Our hours for the rest of the week are as follows:

Thursday, Aug. 20th: 2pm-4pm

Join USGBC Montana for Building Resilience in Montana on July 16 at the University Center here at UM. This event is open to USGBC members, non-members, and students!

The event will explore leading examples, best practices, and USGBC tools for designing buildings and infrastructure that can withstand climate risks and support thriving communities. LEED v5 places resilience alongside decarbonization and equity, emphasizing proactive planning and measurable outcomes.
