We’re excited to announce the broadcast premiere of the 2026 student documentary, Ripple Through the Rockies on Thursday, September 3 at 8:30 pm on Montana PBS .
Outdoor recreation has long defined both community and tradition in the gateway communities surrounding Glacier National Park. Drawn by the promise of snow-covered peaks, clear rivers, and alpine trails, visitors and locals have sustained a $5 billion annual economy built on skiing, hiking, and fishing. But as seasonal patterns grow increasingly unpredictable, the natural trends that once shaped life in Northwest Montana are beginning to shift.
Shorter winters, inconsistent snowpack, and changing river conditions are altering not only the landscape, but the livelihoods tied to it. This film captures the uncertainty facing business owners, workers, and residents navigating an unstable future.
At its core, the film is a portrait of adaptation and resilience. It reveals how a place defined by its natural resources is confronting rapid transformation, as communities work to preserve their way of life in the face of this Ripple Through the Rockies.
