For the past couple weeks our Marine Science and UTeach students, Emma, Addison, and Lexi have been helping teach 5th and 6th graders about math, science, and MARINE SCIENCE!🌊📚

Beach BRAIN is a summer camp created by our Dean of Education, Dr. Angela Barlow. It is dedicated to getting kids excited about fractions, science, and more importantly how we can use fractions in science! ➗🐚

Emma, Lexi, and Addison worked together with Dr. Miller and Dr. Sprinkle to create a week-long curriculum for students to learn about fractions through Plankton, Fish ID, Plants, Invertebrates, and Microplastics!🦀🐠

Dr. Henning’s UTeach students in Reseach Methods BLY 307, stepped outside the classroom for a walking field trip to explore real-world ecosystems for their final inquiry projects. From spotting birds and spiders to identifying invasive and native plant species, students used the natural environment—complete with wetlands and a creek—as their classroom. 🌱

Learning how students think is at the heart of teaching. 🧠

In our Knowing and Learning course, students explored problem-solving and cognitive development by building Tower of Hanoi puzzles. Through this hands-on activity, they examined strategies, patterns, and how learners approach challenges.

Because understanding how students learn is just as important as what they learn.
