Our Story
The PhD in Counselor Education program is the only on-site, CACREP- accredited doctoral program in counseling in the greater New Jersey/New York area. It is built on the national accreditation standards for counseling programs and requires a previously earned master's degree in counseling or a closely aligned field. The primary objective of this program is to enable outstanding scholars, academics, supervisors, and advanced practitioners to become leaders in maximizing the mental health and quality of life for individuals, families, communities, and educational organizations. Students are prepared to work in the field of counseling as professors, clinicians, supervisors, deans or high level student affairs professionals, directors of school counseling and agency programs, and consultants. In addition to coursework, doctoral students have the opportunity to obtain a variety of other professional experiences through work with faculty on research, scholarly writings, conference presentations, and participation in professional associations. As well as encouraging students to collaborate on research being conducted by faculty members, the faculty members are committed to mentoring doctoral students in developing their own areas of research.
