Each month, the resident assistants (RAs) will enter your rooms to conduct health and safety inspections. Health and safety inspections provide you with a level of protection from health violations and fire safety concerns. Each month, you will receive notification that the process will begin on a specific date; the process for April will begin on April 25. RAs will enter your rooms, in pairs, in an official capacity to conduct a visual search for violations.

If a violation is found, you will have 48 hours to remove the violation by taking it home or at least putting it away until you can take it home. The RAs will then re-enter the room to see if you removed the item. If the item is not removed, the violation will result in a meeting with the community director. The process typically takes about a week. If any other conduct violations are found during the inspection, items may be confiscated resulting in a student conduct meeting with the community director.

For a list of prohibited items in the halls, please read the Community Living Guide at www.montclair.edu/media/montclairedu/residentialeducation/pdffiles/Community-Living-Guide-2015-2016.pdf and the University Code of Conduct at www.montclair.edu/dean-of-students/student-conduct/code-conduct/

If you have any questions, please contact a member of the Machuga Heights staff.
