Happy Earth Day. 🌍 This photo of our home was captured from the Orion spacecraft by NPS alumnus and Artemis II Commander Reid Wiseman during NASA's historic first crewed return to the Moon in over 50 years. Today, looking at Earth through his lens, we're reminded just how precious it is.

Artemis II successfully launched yesterday at 3:35 p.m. PDT, beginning the crewed test flight of NASA’s Integrity spacecraft and Space Launch System in a lunar mission profile. Following liftoff, Orion completed its initial Earth orbit phases and is now on a trajectory that will carry the crew beyond the Moon before returning to Earth.

At Waypoint, members of the NPS community gathered to watch the launch live, filling the space and marking the moment together as the mission got underway.

Through its planned return on April 10, we will be displaying NASA’s Artemis real-time orbit tracker at Waypoint. Make sure to check in on the mission as you grab your morning coffee, settle in for a study session, or meet with other students.
