The Boys & Girls Club in Montevallo is a nonprofit aimed at helping youth achieve goals in all areas of life. They offer several programs ranging from education to sports for kids ages 6 to 16+. Here is what the Site Director has to say:
"The Falcon Scholars that I have had on site have not only been a boon for myself and my staff during times where having that extra person around can be a major help but have also been so beneficial for the kids here. They are able to talk to, play with, and get to know them in a way that our counselors often do not have time to do. Aside from this, they have also been a huge help in assisting with programming by coming up with a variety of targeted, age-specific activities for members to do! I think what they gain the most of is experience around a wide variety of children from different cultural and financial backgrounds. They have a chance to see many different social structures and interaction at play in a live environment. I think one of the most memorable was also one of the simplest moments in terms of what was being done. Nyla Shipman took it upon herself to make the club a banner for our Summer program right before the school year let out. It turned out great and was a wonderful thing for all of the kids to be able to see when they started on that first day!"
