University of Montevallo Career Development Center Providing career counseling and career services to all UM students & alumni! Our services are also extended to all UM alumni from any graduating class.

The University of Montevallo Career Development Center offers a variety of services and resources to all UM students, in all majors, all class levels, and all career paths. We provide career counseling and comprehensive assistance with career planning, career exploration, professional development, and job market strategies. We also offer various career and personality assessments, as well as assis

tance with resume writing, cover letter writing, graduate school applications, interview preparation, and more! Today, we honor Juneteenth, which commemorates the date of June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved Black families were informed of their newly granted freedom two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. ❤️💛💚

Juneteenth is officially recognized as both a U.S. federal holiday and a holiday in the state of Alabama as a time of observance, remembrance and celebration. In recognition of this important day, University of Montevallo offices will be closed and return to normal operations Friday, June 20.

Due to expressed interest and a great turnout at our last event, the Career Development Center is hosting another free clothing giveaway, courtesy of its Professional Clothing Closet! Everything still must go!

The event will be on Monday, June 23, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 3 PM at the Professional Clothing Closet, located in Main Hall (side door closest to Reynolds) on 999 Vine St. Montevallo, AL 35115.

Men's and women’s professional clothing in all sizes is still available, including blazers, slacks, belts, blouses, dresses, shoes, and more!

Meredith Avera, Class of ’22, founded The Dread Literary Review, an independent online literary magazine focused on displaying poems and fictions crafted around themes of horror, mystery, and speculation. The Dread accepts submissions of flash fiction, short stories, and poetry.

Here’s what Meredith had to say:

“I started The Dread as a way to encourage and support horror writers across the internet. There’s a lack of accessible publication spaces for these writers, and it’s a privilege to receive so many wonderful submissions and promote some great authors.”
