We’ve been so fortunate to have an incredible lineup of guest speakers in our ED 401/501 (Introduction to Education) class this semester! Each one has brought real-world insight, honesty, and inspiration into our classroom—giving our future educators a deeper look at the heart of the profession.

From sharing practical strategies to offering encouragement and perspective, these speakers have made a lasting impact on our students. So grateful for the time, wisdom, and passion they poured into our class—what a meaningful experience for everyone involved!

The Beta Lambda Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi at the University of Montevallo has a rich history dating back to 1928. Over the years, many of our current faculty and staff were first inducted as undergraduate and graduate students, reflecting a longstanding tradition of excellence in educator preparation.

This year’s induction ceremony continued that legacy, welcoming 18 pre-service teachers into the society. Our keynote speaker, Dr. Erica Lee, shared thoughtful reflections on what she wishes she had known at the beginning of her teaching career and the advice she would offer her younger self today. Notably, Dr. Lee’s connection to the society comes full circle, as she was originally inducted into Kappa Delta Pi as an undergraduate at Birmingham-Southern College.

The chapter is led by sponsor Dr. Frances Courson, whose ongoing commitment to mentoring future educators and fostering professional excellence continues to strengthen the chapter’s impact on campus and beyond.

The University of Montevallo’s online graduate education programs in the College of Education and Human Development have climbed in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Online Master’s in Education Programs national rankings. 📚🍎

Montevallo’s excellence in online graduate education programs has been recognized with a ranking of 50 nationally, moving up from 54th in 2025. Additionally, UM has ranked in the top three among Alabama institutions.
