UM MUSIC ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT! 💜💛

JOSHUA JONES ‘00 graduated from the University of Montevallo, cm laude, with a BM in instrumental music education. At the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law, he earned a joint JD and a Master of Education Law.

After completing a Master of Laws in government and public policy at the Pacific McGeorge School of Law, Jones returned to private practice in Pensacola, Florida, where he opened a solo law office. He was called upon often as a key lawyer for LGBTQ+ issues in northwest Florida, and he collaborated on cases and projects with the ACLU of Florida and Equality Florida. He was the Vice President for the Florida Academy of Collaborative Professionals and a founder and president of West Florida Collaborative Professionals.

For 16 years, and during practice and other projects, Jones served as an adjunct professor at Virginia College, Pensacola State College, and the University of West Florida. His classes have included family law, Constitutional law, evidence, trusts and estates, real estate law, legal writing for paralegals, and law office technology. He joined California Western School of Law in 2021 and teaches 1L and upper-level writing courses. Before joining CWSL, Jones was a Visiting Assistant Clinical Professor at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.

Jones is a member of the California Bar and the Florida Bar.

UM MUSIC ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT! 💜💛

ZACHARY BANKS ‘08 will serve as the 2026-28 President of the Alabama Vocal Association. The Alabama Vocal Association (AVA) is the choral division of the Alabama Music Educators Association (AMEA), which is the state chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).

Since 2019, Zach has served as choral director at Ramsay High School. He has also held a chorister position at the Cathedral Church of the Advent in downtown Birmingham.

ORLANDO WILLIAMS ‘16 has been named Chorus Director of the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra is based in Sugar Land, Texas. Orlando also serves as Director of Choral Activities at the University of Houston-Downtown.

The University of Montevallo Kodály Institute has begun! Twenty-five teachers from seven different states are participating in this two week course, culminating in a final concert at 2:30 on Friday, July 17. You can also join us for a community folk dance on Tuesday, July 14 at 4:30.
