The Speech and Language Center will be closed tomorrow due to power outages and storm damage on campus and in the community. Please share this post and spread the word!
We will see everyone on Thursday!

Due to power outages and debris on campus and in the Montevallo community from storms earlier this afternoon, UM will be closed on Tuesday, June 2. No classes or extracurricular activities will be held while the University is closed.

Make sure to monitor local media for updates on weather conditions and take appropriate actions. Students, faculty and staff should exercise caution when traveling and use their best discretion about the decision to travel to and from campus.

On Tuesday, the SLP program participated in the fourth annual ASL Expo at UM! We were excited to share information about the profession and the potential career paths with a degree in Speech-Language Pathology with all the students who attended.

Everyone please give a big congratulations to three of our SLP students, Lily, Aspen, and Jill, on their presentations at Undergraduate Research Day!

Lily, a senior SLP student, presented a poster researching Preschool teachers' knowledge, understanding, and beliefs regarding children with speech sound disorders and inclusion in the general education setting in Shelby County, Alabama, with her faculty mentor, Dr. Henton.

Aspen, a junior SLP student, gave an oral presentation on Creating a Culturally Sensitive Language Screener, with her faculty mentor, Dr. Middleton.

Jill, a senior SLP student, gave an oral presentation on The Perspectives and Communication Decisions of Parents with Children Who Have Hearing Loss, with her faculty mentor, Dr. Henton.

We are so proud of everything these students accomplished and can't wait to see what they achieve next!

Congratulations to Mrs. Carley Kirkland and Mrs. Beth Laywer (Department of Nursing) on their presentation at the Alabama League for Nursing's annual conference!
Mrs. Kirkland and Mrs. Lawyer examined how interprofessional education and practice improve patient outcomes due to a better understanding of the roles of other disciplines.

In addition to winning first place, we are also the first university to win the quiz bowl twice since its inception!

Congratulations to Jill Brooks for winning the Undergraduate Research Scholarship! This scholarship is given to a student who participates in Undergraduate Research Day.
Jill and Dr. Henton have been researching parents' communication choices for children with hearing loss.
