The University of Montevallo will be open and return to normal operations Wednesday, June 3.

Due to power outages and debris on campus and in the Montevallo community from storms earlier this afternoon, UM will be closed on Tuesday, June 2. No classes or extracurricular activities will be held while the University is closed.

Make sure to monitor local media for updates on weather conditions and take appropriate actions. Students, faculty and staff should exercise caution when traveling and use their best discretion about the decision to travel to and from campus.

For the 15th consecutive year, the University of Montevallo has been recognized as a College of Distinction! 🏆👏 This prestigious honor is awarded to institutions whose commitment to engaged, experiential education sets them apart.

Alongside the institution-wide Colleges of Distinction award, UM received special accolades specifically for the Michael E. Stephens College of Business and the College of Education and Human Development. Montevallo was also acknowledged for its outstanding career development initiatives for undergraduate students, dedication to supporting transfer students and commitment to supporting military-related students and employees.

Dr. Michelle R. Johnston has been selected as the next president of the University of Montevallo after being approved by the UM Board of Trustees during a specially called meeting May 22. Johnston will be the first female president in the institution's history.

Johnston previously served as the president of Georgia Southwestern State University. Her top priorities have been enhancing student success, ensuring excellence in all academic and student development programs and expanding strategic partnerships and donor engagement.

During her more than 30-year career in higher education, she has led three institutions as president as well as serving as a faculty member and in various administrative roles. Between 2007 and 2014, she served as a senior leader at the University of Montevallo.
