The AUM Office of Advancement was honored to recently attend the retirement ceremony of Brigadier General Terrence Adams ’94 and present him with a university proclamation and a WWII P-40E Warhawk Historical Plaque.

Brig. Gen. Adams served as Auburn University at Montgomery’s Student Government Association President and as president of his chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He continues to serve as a proud alumnus, most recently returning to campus as the keynote speaker for Auburn University at Montgomery’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Reflections Breakfast.

After 39 years of exemplary service, Brig. Gen. Adams will retire from his position as the Deputy Principal Cyber Advisor to the Secretary of Defense and Senior Military Advisor for Cyber Policy.

AUM is incredibly proud of Brig. Gen. Adams and looks forward to continuing to work together in support of Auburn University at Montgomery and its students.

🎓We’ve celebrated the aspirations of Warhawks in the Class of 2026 as part of our spring graduate spotlight series.

These graduates reflect the determination of first-generation students and those pursuing service-oriented fields.

1️⃣ Dion DePina of Montgomery earned a degree in special education from AUM’s College of Education. While serving in the U.S. Army National Guard, she also works as a substitute teacher for Montgomery Public Schools.
2️⃣ Aaliyah Dunklin of Leeds, a first-generation college student, earned a business administration degree with a major in human resource management and a minor in management from AUM’s College of Business.
3️⃣Christalynn Lee Tate of Shorter earned a business administration degree with a major in human resource management and aspires to become a chief human resources officer.

AUM’s Army ROTC Mustang Battalion recently celebrated the commissioning of one of its cadets.

Cadet Lateasha Goldsmith, who studied business administration at AUM, was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. She will begin her service as a chemical officer before entering her main branch as an adjutant general officer.

🎓We’re proud to celebrate these Warhawks from the Class of 2026 and the paths they’re forging since commencement.

This group of reflects the talent, resilience and purpose that defines the Warhawk spirit.

1️⃣ Grace Aragon of Montgomery earned a degree in accounting from AUM’s College of Business. She combined her love for numbers with public service and now works as an accountant for the government.
2️⃣ Bria F. Parker earned her master’s degree in management information systems and currently works for the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services as an assistive technology specialist. She plans to return to school for a second master’s degree as she prepares to transition into a career as a systems engineer.
3️⃣ Anna Christine McKinney earned a degree in psychology with a minor in counseling. She now plans to pursue a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling as she continues preparing for a career helping individuals and families through counseling and mental health services.
4️⃣ Montgomery native Nicholas Drayton earned a degree in communications with a concentration in journalism. He serves as a volunteer broadcaster for WVAS 90.7 FM and as a multimedia journalist for AUM Live.

AUM’s new Machine Learning Lab is buzzing with innovation this week as faculty and students participate in hands-on AI training. 💻🤖

Led by Dr. Olcay Kursun, assistant professor of computer science, the training is part of the university’s NSF ExpandAI initiative, which is helping expand AI education, research and innovation across campus.

Using NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute materials, participants are exploring real-world artificial intelligence applications while building practical deep learning skills in AUM’s high-powered AI computing lab.

This group of reflects the leadership, ambition and service of the Class of 2026.

1️⃣ Selma resident Richarda Lanier earned a degree in interdisciplinary studies from AUM’s University College.
2️⃣ Shandria Johnson of Atmore earned her master’s degree in speech-language pathology from AUM’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences. After graduating, she plans to work as a pediatric speech-language pathologist.
3️⃣ Pamela Njungwe of Atlanta, Georgia, earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from AUM’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She is a family nurse practitioner with Loyal Source Government Services.
4️⃣ Kendra Johnson represents the entrepreneurial spirit of graduates from AUM’s College of Business. She earned her MBA and plans to apply her degree in her work as founder and chief executive officer of both Blackwood Global Enterprises and Kendra Johnson Corporation.

Six BTW Magnet High School students were recognized in Auburn University at Montgomery’s third annual High School Poetry Competition.

BTW senior Lillian Speigner captured first place in the competition with her poem, “Echoes of Montgomery,” a reflection on violence, resilience, community, and hope in Montgomery.

Other BTW students earning honors were:

🏆Second Place (tie): “From Survival to Change” by Summer Stanford, 10th grade, and “Spilled Milk” by Tashod Jones, 10th grade
🏆Third Place: “Still Here” by Jayden Rudolph, 12th grade
🏆Honorable Mention (tie): “When Hate is Normalized” by Zulimar Reyes, 10th grade, and “The Weight of Falling Things” by Ayannah Boone, 10th grade

Joyce Kelley, professor of English and the competition’s organizer, said this year’s submissions were marked by their emotional honesty and their powerful reflection on both individual and shared experiences.

"We sought out voice-driven poetry for this competition, and each winning poem was emotionally resonant, connecting personal experiences to larger conversations about community."

The tassels have turned, but the journeys are just beginning. 🎓

Our spring graduate spotlight series celebrates Warhawks in the Class of 2026 who are carrying their AUM experience into purpose-driven careers, leadership and service in their communities.

1️⃣ Montgomery resident Sydney Tait earned her degree in elementary education from AUM’s College of Education. She is a fourth-grade teacher at Airport Road Intermediate School in Elmore County.
2️⃣ Kiara Henry of Montgomery earned her master’s degree in industrial-organizational psychology from AUM’s College of Sciences. She is an executive consultant for Axiom & Co.
3️⃣ Maryann Johnson Pitts of Montgomery earned her Ed.S. in collaborative teaching from AUM’s College of Education. She is a special education teacher at Stanhope Elmore High School and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
4️⃣ Theresa Pasha of Garland, Texas, earned her master's degree in speech-language pathology from AUM’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She works at Marigold Learning Academy and looks forward to beginning her clinical fellowship in speech-language pathology after renewing her license and completing the Praxis exam.

It’s time to help our spring graduates shine. We’re spotlighting a few outstanding Warhawks who shared how they’re making their mark since commencement.

From educators and journalists to accountants, coaches and technology specialists, they are carrying their AUM experience into meaningful work and new opportunities.

1️⃣ Prattville native Bailey Hayes earned her MBA from AUM’s College of Business and now works in public sector sales for Southern Company.
2️⃣ Ty’Keyia Buchannon of Auburn earned a degree in kinesiology from AUM’s College of Education and plans to pursue a career in physical therapy.
3️⃣ Evergreen native Trevor Fountain earned his degree in general business from AUM's College of Business. He serves as chief executive officer at Sakrace Clothing.
4️⃣ Greenville native Katelyn Stinson earned a degree in interdisciplinary studies from AUM’s University College and now works as a sales representative for Hicks, Inc.
