🐈We will have our first fall meeting on September 24th at 6pm.

🐱Youth will learn about showing cats at cat shows!

The Capital City Master Gardeners gathered for their recent membership meeting and had plenty to learn and discuss!

Members enjoyed an informative presentation from Dr. R. Scot Duncan on Alabama’s amazing birdlife, learning more about the birds that call our state home and the importance of understanding and protecting these feathered residents.

The group also discussed updates to their membership forms and upcoming club business. After the meeting, members enjoyed refreshments and fellowship together.

We’re grateful for the continued dedication of the Capital City Master Gardeners and their commitment to learning, growing, and sharing their knowledge with our community!

Preparing for Winter Grazing!

This morning, beef producers gathered for an informative meeting featuring Forage Extension Specialist Josh Elmore, who shared practical information on preparing pastures for winter grazing.

Topics included preparing fields for winter planting, properly calibrating seed spreaders and grain drills, understanding the importance of thatch height, and being aware of allelopathy and its effects on establishing new forage. Josh also discussed the importance of planting at the right time to reduce competition from existing summer grasses.

Proper preparation, equipment calibration, and planting timing can all play an important role in establishing successful winter grazing and providing quality forage for cattle.

Thank you to Josh Elmore for sharing his expertise and helping Alabama beef producers make informed decisions for their operations.
