Memorial Day weekend means grills are fired up, burgers are stacked high, and family gatherings are in full swing! Before you dig in, keep food safety on the menu too. 🍔🌭☀️
Here are a few quick tips for a safe and delicious cookout:
🔥 Cook ground beef to an internal temperature of 160°F using a food thermometer to help prevent bacteria like E. coli.
🥬 Rinse tomatoes, onions, and lettuce under clean running water before slicing, and keep cut produce refrigerated until serving.
🧀 Keep cheese refrigerated at 40°F or lower and wash hands before handling.
🥒 Refrigerate pickles and condiments after opening for best quality and to help prevent spoilage.
🍞 If guests have food allergies, check bun labels carefully for allergens like wheat, soy, and sesame.
⚠️ Sesame is now recognized as the 9th most common food allergen and can cause severe allergic reactions.
❄️ Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours — or within 1 hour if temperatures are above 90°F — and use leftovers within 2–3 days. Don’t forget to label containers!
