Congratulations to our faculty and graduate student who recently represented the us at the 2026 Joint Meeting of the International Society of Forest Resource Economics ( ) & Western Forest Economists ( ) in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Dr. Nana Tian presented research from the USDA Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) project, highlighting how major bottomland hardwood oak species may respond to future climate change scenarios and the use of machine learning models for growth and carbon estimation.
Dr. Shaun Tanger shared research exploring how property taxation concerns influence forest landowner participation in property tax and carbon market programs and the role those programs play in long-term forest management decisions.
A special congratulations goes to graduate student Sujata Shrestha, who presented her research, “What Drives Oak Timber Prices? Evidence from Arkansas Timber Markets,” and earned Second Runner-Up in the Student Presentation Competition. Sujata’s work, under the guidance of Dr. Sagar Godar Chhetri, examined historical Arkansas oak timber markets and the economic and ecological factors influencing price trends.
We are proud to see our faculty and students sharing impactful research and representing the university so well on a national stage.

At the College of Forestry, Agriculture and Natural Resources, our students don’t just learn in the classroom, they gain hands-on experience solving real-world natural resource challenges.
Students in Tiffany Osborne’s Natural Resources Management Practicum course spent their final semester working directly with a local landowner to develop customized management plans for their property. From identifying management goals to collecting field data and presenting final recommendations, students applied the skills and knowledge they developed throughout their time at UAM.
Throughout the course, students evaluated forest structure and composition, soil types, tree health, topography, wildlife populations, and silvicultural practices to create comprehensive management plans tailored to the property’s needs.
Experiences like these prepare our graduates to step confidently into careers in forestry, wildlife, and natural resources management while making a meaningful impact in our communities.

Students in the Human Dimensions in Natural Resources class wrapped up the semester by hosting a poster symposium as their final project. Each student selected a natural resources topic and developed an informative fact sheet and poster to showcase their work.
Today, they presented their research to faculty and industry professionals, gaining valuable experience in communicating ideas and engaging with others in the field. Great job to our students for their hard work and professionalism!
