“There’s something wonderful about singing together that’s hard to explain,” said Michelle Dettmann, a Concordia graduate and member of the Minnesota Center Chorale.

“Everyone around me is breathing together, and we’re one organism. We’re creating something better than any one person could do individually — like one plus one equals 50! When that amazing sound converges around me, it’s magical.”

Congratulations to Layne ’95 and Helene (Svir) Danielson ’96, the 2026 John S. Pierce Ambassador Award recipients!

They have been enthusiastic ambassadors for Concordia College for decades, strengthening Cobber connections and encouraging students to consider Concordia.

Together, they have chaired the Brainerd Area Corn Feed for 20-plus years. Layne served on Concordia’s National Alumni Board, including as secretary, and nominated Cobbers for awards. Helene traveled to Tanzania to mentor Concordia students and work with underserved youth near the Grumeti Reserve.

Dedicated volunteers and generous supporters of the college, Layne and Helene have continued their Cobber legacy through their son, Atlie ’24.
