What a weekend. The 43rd Annual Walnut Creek Art & Wine Festival brought out the best of the East Bay, and SEBA was right in the middle of it.

Some of our favorite moments came from the stories people shared: a professor who changed how they think, a program that opened a door they didn't know was there, a connection to campus that has stayed with them for years. Those are the conversations that stay with us too.

Congratulations to EDBA student Aurora Velez on successfully defending her dissertation proposal, "From Fear to Fuel: Resolving the AI Paradox Through Managerial Oversight and Employee Resilience."

Aurora's research focuses on one of the most consequential challenges facing organizations today: how to adopt AI while reducing employee fear, discomfort, and mistrust. Her study proposes the Threat Crossover Model, using agent-based simulation and survey-based validation to examine the connections among AI-related job threats, managerial oversight, employee resilience, collaboration, and trust.

Guided by committee chair Dr. Zahra Sajedinia and committee members Dr. Jeem Sirivar and Dr. Navid Sabbaghi, Aurora's committee recognized the importance of her topic, the clarity of her framework, and the potential contribution of this work to AI adoption and organizational trust, and supported her moving forward with the dissertation.

Congratulations to Assistant Professor Nabanita Talukdar, DBA on her latest publication!

Professor Talukdar, a member of the Marketing faculty is a co-author on a new study published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Marketing and Logistics.

"Sustainable Paradox: Navigating Beliefs About the Effects of Global Warming in Pursuit of New Desires in the Luxury Market" explores how fashion consumers balance a desire for sustainable luxury with traditional luxury values and what that means for emerging shopping behaviors like online flash sales, rental platforms, and secondhand markets. The research offers fresh insight into how climate beliefs and organic fashion motivations shape the way people pursue luxury in the digital age.

We're proud to see Professor Talukdar's scholarship contributing to the global conversation on sustainability, consumer behavior, and the future of luxury.

Two Gaels were named 2026 scholarship recipients by the Financial Women of San Francisco, one of the Bay Area's most respected organizations supporting women in finance.

Aeli Sherpa is pursuing her Master of Science in Accounting at SEBA after earning her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from San José State University. As Treasurer of the Women's Wellness Organization and Vice President of the Global Student Network, she has built a record of service alongside her academic work. She aims to build a career in accounting and finance that combines analytical rigor with community impact.

Jasira Gay is a first-generation student earning her BS in Accounting with a minor in Data Science. She serves as an Honors Peer Mentor, tutors Accounting 100 students, and is active in the Black Student Union, the student accounting society, and the Data Science Club. This summer she begins an audit internship with Withum. She plans to break barriers for young Black professionals and mentor women toward financial confidence.

Blue skies, live music, and a glass of something good. 🍷🍺 ☀️

This weekend, we're pouring at the Walnut Creek Art & Wine Festival, June 6–7 at Civic Park in Walnut Creek. Two days. Live music on two stages, 200+ artisans, award-winning local wines, and one very good excuse to enjoy the best of our side of the tunnel.

Admission is free, with something to do for all ages.
Come get a pour from your SMC crew (look for the SMC flag), give us a sláinte , and let's make the most of the first real weekend of summer.

On May 21, the Saint Mary's Graduate Business Class of 2026 made it official by walking across that Moraga stage.

These are professionals, maybe even co-workers, who balanced careers, families, and rigorous coursework to earn their MBA, specialized master's, or doctoral degree. That is not a small thing. It was just over a week ago, but it feels like yesterday. On May 22, the Undergraduate Class of 2026 crossed the stage at Saint Mary's Stadium and made it official. The sun was out, the families were loud, and the Gael community showed up in full.

Years of hard work, early mornings, late nights, and everything in between led to this moment. You challenged yourselves in the classroom, found your people, and grew in ways that go far beyond a diploma. This campus was your home, and now you take everything you built here out into the world.

To every graduate, every family member who cheered you on, and every faculty and staff member who helped get you here: thank you. Days like this are what being a Gael is all about.
