We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Brittany Rancour was selected as the 2026 American Society of Irish Medieval Studies award winner for Best Article or Essay in Irish Medieval Studies for her article, “A Singular Woman: The Prioress of Lismullin Convent and her Seal,” published in volume 18 (2025) of Eolas: The Journal of the American Society of Irish Medieval Studies.

The American Society of Irish Medieval Studies "seeks to develop Irish medieval studies as an academic discipline within the United States and Europe. Members of the Society conduct research in archaeology, art history, history, linguistics, literature, and theology."

This summer, Dr. Rancour presented two more papers at international conferences: “Beyond the Blazon: Thirteenth-Century Heraldic Seals from Ireland” and "From the Archives: Medieval Women’s Seals from Scotland and Ireland, c. 1100-1400"

If you are interested in Dr. Rancour's research, consider taking one of her classes in our Art History program. This fall, Dr. Rancour is teaching ART 263 World Art History I:Prehistoric through 1400 and ART 361 Ancient Greek and Roman Art. Look for more classes from her in the Spring!

Apparently, all of Morehead has turned into a kiln and the university buildings are getting a solid glaze.

It is just too hot today, so campus will be closing at noon (12pm) on Friday September 4. Campus will reopen on Tuesday September 8 at 8am.

Take care of yourselves. Drink water. Stay indoors. Wear cool temperature clothes.

Have great Labor Day weekends!

It's hot enough outside that ceramics 1 can bisque their pots on the sidewalk!

Fun fact: the first firing, or bisque firing, of ceramics occurs in a kiln that reaches temperatures of 1,500 to 1,800F! Glaze firings can reach 2350F!

Its going to be hot outside all week. Please make sure to take care of yourselves - you aren't a ceramic pot needing to be fired! You are a human being who needs water and to wear light clothing!!

The late, great Dolly Parton once said, "If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then, you are an excellent leader." We love this wisdom. We encourage all our students to be incredible inspirations and eventually leaders in their fields.

But we also offer several courses in Leadership and have an entire Strategic Communication and Leadership minor. The courses include: COMS 300 Strategic Organizational Leadership; COMS 310 Professional Presentations and Speech Writing; COMS 330 Argumentation and Persuasion; and COMS 383 Facilitating Team Communication.

If you're interested in becoming a better leader, consider taking one or all of these classes! Or become one of our Leadership Minors!
