As much as we love cat-eye glasses, cardigans, and shushing patrons, librarians also love to travel and experience many of the same things normal people do.

Here we have two of our librarians, Erica and Josh, outside of work, with no cardigans or glasses on!

Erica made it through a Dayseeker concert, and Josh made it through a Dance Gavin Dance concert, all without telling the bands to sing quietly or escorting other loud patrons out of the venues.

Our next summer staff pick comes from our Library Business Manager, Bre!

She's been reading through "A Camper & Criminals Cozy Mystery" series by Tonya Kappes.

It's a fun series set in the small town of Normal, KY, within the Daniel Boone National Forest. It's a long series too, with over 40 books and growing!

A quirky cast of characters keep finding themselves in humorously dangerous situations while exploring the importance of friends and family throughout their adventures.

It's officially swimming season in Kentucky! For many kids, Memorial Day marked start of the summer season as pools opened up, water balloons were prepared, and sprinklers were set up in the front yard. Anyone remember how cold the first dip of the season was? 😰 It often wasn't warm enough long enough to warm the pools comfortably. Swimming in the lakes could be particularly uncomfortable until later in June. This didn't stop us, though!

While digging though the MSU Digital Archives, we encountered some Eagles from 1972 enjoying some water sports. Did you know we had a swim team back in the day? Personally, it'd be cool to have one again! Thoughts?

As we tidy up and work on various projects in preparation for our eventful summer and upcoming school year, we gathered up some leftover🎨 projects from our students!

It is lovely stumbling upon projects from recent events. Clearly, a few of these were meant to stay behind. We are so happy you love CCL! We 💙💛 y'all too.

Have fun out there! Don't hesitate to share your adventures with us.

For the Memorial Day edition of Throwback Thursday, let's pay our respects to a legendary MSU couple: Mignon McClain Doran, and her husband, Adron Doran—a former Kentucky House of Representatives member, and president of MSU from 1954-1977.

We see their names on our most prominent buildings every day, but many of us don't pause to consider the importance of those names, or the history behind them. If you'd like to look further, we have tons of photos and documents of the Doran family in our digital archives, MSU ScholarWorks!

Also - the Mignon dorms are each so cool! Very distinctive architectural designs. Which is your favorite?

Each Friday, we will post a book recommendation from one of our librarians or staff members.

This week, our archivist, Dieter Ullrich, is reading The Court-Martial of Daniel Boone, by Allan W. Eckert.

We just happen to have this book in our Appalachian-Kentucky Collection! So, if you want to read what Dieter is reading, or explore some other regional greats, head in before 3PM today as the campus is closing a little early.

Happy reading, happy weekend!

Happy !

In the course of digging through our digital archives, we were reminded of an integral piece of Morehead history: The Rowan County War.

This story includes illegal distillery operations, family feuds, questionable elections, cold-blooded murder, posse revenge, a 60-person shootout downtown, Rowan County ALMOST getting dissolved by the state...and the birth of what becomes MSU. WHAT?!?!

Here's the links to the most entertaining information you'll encounter all summer:

Our picture is from the archives, a ballad about the war, called "The Tolliver Song."

Enjoy!

🎵School's out for SUMMER🎵

You did it!!! Finals are over. The '25-'26 academic year is a wrap.

It was lovely running into so many familiar faces at graduation practice. We at the library are so, so proud of you all! Please don't be strangers. Now, fly away and seize your futures!

To our returning students, we will be here all summer if you need us. If not, have a wonderful break with lots of fun and rest!

We miss all of you already. 💙💛🦅

Here's a pic we grabbed early this spring. Look hard enough and you'll see our resident geese having a dip in Eagle Lake.

This has us thinking, so close to graduation, at the close of another semester:
