The Extension Office in the courthouse has soil probes for lending!

Whether you have a small homegrown garden, yard or a large field of corn, it's best practice to get your soil tested each fall to help you determine what amendments your soil may need to stay healthy and have a productive growing season ahead. This is usually done with a soil probe, 6-12 inches deep, sporadically around your testing area to get a uniform sample of about 2 cups of soil and is then sent off to a soil analyzing lab.

What's your autumn choice for today?

I was a clover kid and in 4-H as a child.

I showed sheep, sang, baked cookies, built a bird house, and learned to stencil paint a table runner.

What I remembered most about exhibits was that the goal wasn’t to get it perfect, it was to make mistakes and learn from them.

I recall making chocolate chip cookies with powdered sugar instead of flour. My parents made me turn in the flat burnt exhibit. It received a purple ribbon! All because I failed and learned.

As an adult I was an exhibit judge and took that same mindset with me. Sending a young man to state with the ugliest bracelet made of braided paracord. He talked about it for ten minutes, what he learned, how he tried different types of braids, and how he’d do it differently.

If we never fail, we never learn to problem solve or think outside the box.

4-H has made me a creative problem solver.

We are celebrating National 4-H Week with 4-H Swag Wednesday to show our support of 4-H!

Visit our office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday, October 5th, wearing your 4-H Swag (shirt, hat, socks, bandana, livestock patch...) to receive a prize and be entered in our prize drawing.

We are located at 48 W. Young Street in the Morgan County Building. Our office is across the hall from the courthouse auditorium.
