You can help Christmas come to kids in need!
The ABCs for Kids committee at Western Piedmont Community College is already making plans to bring the Christmas spirit to low-income preschool students this year.
The decades-long community outreach program hosts an annual Christmas party on WPCC’s main campus for local daycare children ages 2-5 who are identified by Blue Ridge Community Action as being in families who are in financial need. The “ABC” stands for “Apple, Book and Coat.” The children who attend receive snacks, gifts of clothing items and a book to take home. The event includes crafts, story time and a visit from Santa Claus.
To generate funding for the party, the committee holds an annual clothing sale. Committee members invite people to bring donations of gently used clothing and housewares from Sept. 8-21 - Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Friday from 8 a.m. to noon - in Room 113 in E building on the main campus. The committee requests that the clothes have no stains or holes, and that no underwear or bedding be donated. See the flyer for more details.
People also can support the project by shopping at the sale Oct. 5-7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the basement of Hildebrand Hall in the former cafeteria area, or by making a donation at wpcc.edu/foundation/give and designating the contribution to “ABCs for Kids.”
