Last week, Det 915 held its Spring Commissioning Ceremony for the Class of 2026. Eight cadets took the oath of office, becoming the newest generation of Blackbirds to earn the rank of Second Lieutenant.
Lieutenant Colonel Meredith Camilletti, 2001 WVU graduate and Det 915 alumna, gave remarks during the ceremony. She emphasized the importance of building relationships, finding mentors for guidance, and approaching new situations with a good attitude while becoming an expert. Lt Col Camilletti stated that the new 2d Lts should “know the standards, ask the questions, learn fast, don’t be afraid to think critically, and solve problems — and when you see a problem, fix it.”
This ceremony marked the culmination of years of demanding academics, physical training, leadership development, and service to the cadet wing and university. Each graduate dedicated more than 1,500 hours to the program while balancing the responsibilities of college life and leadership positions across the detachment.
This class also set a remarkable academic standard, earning one of the highest average GPAs in recent detachment history with a 3.83 average. Two cadets graduated with perfect 4.0 GPAs, and another earned induction into the Order of Augusta, West Virginia University’s highest student honor recognizing the university’s top graduates.
Following the oath of office, the new lieutenants were joined by their families for the traditional rank pin-on before receiving their first salute, a long-standing tradition symbolizing respect, mentorship, and gratitude toward an enlisted member who helped shape their journey.
Congratulations, LTs! A huge thank you to Lt Col Camilletti for speaking during the ceremony. We’ll see everyone out in the Big Blue!
