The West Virginia University EcoCAR Mobility Challenge team consists of more than 80 undergraduate and graduate students, who are collaborating on a more eco-friendly design of the Chevrolet Blazer. The team's goal is to create a vehicle with reduced emissions and better fuel economy than the original stock model, while maintaining consumer acceptance and vehicle performance.

Dr Nix leads EcoCAR students on a garage walkthrough of our Mobility Challenge Chevy Blazer from a previous competition as the EcoCAR Innovation Challenge kicks off for year one. He also walked students through the Cadillac LYRIQ, though it is not pictured here. Through EcoCAR, students go beyond conventional learning by tackling real-world automation challenges with hands-on engineering, emerging technologies, and entrepreneurship. The team looks forward to welcoming the new 2026 Chevrolet Blazer EV for the EcoCAR Innovation Challenge.

At Final Competition, WVU was honored to receive the Spirit of the Challenge Award. This recognition means so much because it reflects something that can't be measured on a score sheet: perseverance.

While obstacles tested us, they never defined us. They revealed the determination, adaptability, and teamwork that make this team so special, and that effort did not go unnoticed by the competition organizers.

No matter what, our students continued to problem solve, support one another, and push forward. This award is a testament to the resilience of every team member who refused to give up when things got difficult.

Bringing this award home to WVU is a reflection of the grit and resilience that are at the heart of the Mountaineer spirit! 💙💛

Let's talk Final Comp Week 1 @ Milford Proving Grounds⚡️

Highlights from the week include:
🔥 Being the only team to complete the CAVs safety check on the first try
🥇1st Place in Cooperative ACC
🥈2nd Place in the Lateral Feature Evaluation

The week tested our team in more ways than one, and overcoming unexpected challenges along the way made these accomplishments even more meaningful. From early mornings to long nights, the resilience, collaboration, and determination of this team is truly remarkable.

A huge thank you to General Motors for allowing us to utilize the incredible facility, and to our faculty, our mentor Dillon, and the EcoCAR Challenge organizers for their unwavering support.
