Get to know this brainy bunch a little more one resident at a time!

Up next is Gabriella Casinelli, PGY2. She always warms her patients and colleagues with her kind heart, contagious smile and positive energy. We can’t forget to mention, she is on the top of the hospital fashion trend especially with FIGS. We all love Gabby and her mom’s homemade pepperoni rolls. Thanks for being part of the team!

🏡: Follansbee, WV

Why WVU? It was one of my first interviews and I had a great time at dinner with the residents. I could tell they were close and it would be a place I could learn and grow for the next four years.

What’s next? Outpatient general neurology

Favorite show & character from it? One of my all time favorite shows is Big Bang theory and of course Sheldon Cooper. Modern family and Phil Dunfee is a close second.

What’s your theme song? I did it my way - Frank Sinatra

Favorite emoji? 🙃

Favorite rotation so far? Subspecialty clinic month. I enjoy the outpatient setting and continuity of care. It is nice getting to work in different clinics and seeing all of neurology!

Favorite way to spend a day off? Good coffee and breakfast, something outdoors (hiking, kayaking), spending time with my favorite people

Favorite work memory? There’s so many. Kelsey and the cry spot tour, decorating the work rooms and looking at all the trees during Christmas, trips to the farmers market before didactics and of course jeopardy

Say hello to Hanife Saglam, PGY-1. If you see her around, she is always cheerful and has a smile! As someone who has lived on three different continents, she has enjoyed exploring WV and the camaraderie of residency so far. Thanks for joining our team, Hanife!!

🏡? Istanbul, Turkey

What do you like the most about neurology? Localizing the lesion 🧠

Future plans? After graduating from medical school, I explored a research opportunity in neurocritical care mainly in stroke and traumatic brain injury. I plan to do a fellowship in stroke with an aim to incorporate research to my clinical practice in an academic setting

Hobbies? Photography 📸, traveling, and embroidery became my new hobby this year

Favorite 🎶 Turkish alternative rock and pop music

Favorite Morgantown restaurant? Fresh mint

Favorite desert: sutlac (rice pudding)

Favorite city: Istanbul(no surprise😄) it is my favorite city because you can feel a sense of universal history in every step you take 🏙🌇

Shhh it’s a secret … excuse us while we are bulldog fans for a minute! Georgia native and vascular neurologist, Ted Katner, treated the residents (and Dr. Riggs) to dinner after the Georgia Bulldogs won the national championship 🏈🏟THANK YOU DR. KATNER!! 💙💛
